Ram 2500 C10 short bed

I would like to get a 5th wheel and give up my 25'KZ. What length or weight would I look for? really a lot of questions but this would get me in the right spot. Thank for your help. Oh the truck had at one time a hitch in the bed.
  • You say it is a Ram 2500. Tuen you say C10? That used to be a Chevrolet 1/2 designation.
So, what truck is is? What motor? What rear end ratio?
  • hi.

what is the limits of you tow vehicle? then find a 5th whl that's is with in those limits. you said the truck was already fitted with a 5th whl hitch once. would recommend a air ride type hitch easy on truck, trailer, and you.
  • ok I have a 1999 Ram 2500 quad cab (6')bed,GVWR 8,800, 8.0L gas,3.55 Axle. I am pulling a 1999 KZ 25' trailer weighting 6,000. no problems other than needs gas.
  • Max trailer rating is just over 13,000# with a max GCWR of 19,000#.

Note that GCWR is the weight is the total when truck (fully loaded) and trailer are weighed and added up. For example, when your RV is hitched to the truck and driven onto a set of scales. Truck weight = 8500# and RV weight (on it's wheels) is 10,000, that equals a GCWR of 18,500#.

Look for an RV with about a 10,000# GVWR in my opinion. Length isn't much of an issue until you want to fit it in a campsite. weight is an issue any time you tow.

Here are the charts for 2001 models of Dodge Ram CLICKY.

Here are the 1999 charts for all makes.

well the c10 is a 8.0L engine. happy to clear that up.

Don't know much about Dodge's engine codes but do you mean the "V10"? The 8.0L is a V10.
  • ib516, Thank you for your help. I found a 28' 5er 9,000 GVWR 11,500 This will work for my truck. ram 2500,short bed,8.0L gas,8,800 GVWR,3.55 axe. Have to look for a slider mount for the short bed. I hope this will work. Really appreciate your help.
