Ram 3500 windshield problem coating

The windshield on our truck has picked us a foreign coating or film that is only visible when the wipers are on.Just as the wiper blade makes a pass a fog type of film appears on the glass immediately behind it,making visibly very poor.I have tried several different cleaners without any success.I have tried new wiper blades.I am almost to the point I may need to replace the glass.Where it came from I have no idea. When the glass is dry it is not visible.Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  • The truck is an 05 so I personally would not spend too much time trying to fix it unless it's in perfect shape and newer. If replacing be sure to ask for a PPE or another quality windshield. A lot are coming from China these days.
  • Thanks for the replies.I have never used rain-x on the glass,it must be something I have picked up on the road or somewhere.I have tried coke, alcohol, and several different window cleaners without success.I have heard of Bon Ami for cleaning mirrors.Where can I buy it? I will also try the Motor kote window cleaner, the local auto parts store has it.Thanks for everyone's help.

  • Bar Keepers Friend, or 0000 steel wool and detergent to clean the window.

Also as mentioned before if you've used Rainx or other water repellent coating on your windshield, you will get this when you first start out in the morning, it goes away in about 5-10 min, but it's annoying.
  • Bon Ami (not Comet) cleans everything off glass including any water spots and never scratches. I use it a couple times a year on the side glass and mirrors to get water spots off and it leaves the glass clear and very smooth.
    Can't hurt.
  • Sounds like you got sprayed with some form of oil that spread over the glass with the wipers. I would call a glass place and see what they recommend. I would think some alcohol wipes would cut the residue, and then finish up with any good glass cleaner with ammonia.
