I'm betting my windshield in my LongHorn is WELL over $500.
Comp deductible is common at $500 yes but glass coverage is usually $100. Mine used to be $50 10 years ago or so.
Believe it or not, different insurance companies have different glass coverage policies. Mine will repair chips for free if repairable, otherwise it comes under the comp deductible, whether it's $250, $500 or even $1000. And while a lot (most) of windshields can be replaced with aftermarket ones for well under $500, there are many that will run over $1000- $1500. About a month ago, I had a rock hit mine and left a small chip. I parked and went into the store I was headed to. When I came out about 30 minutes later, that chip had spread 3/4 of the way across the windshield. After calling insurance agent to verify glass policy, I paid $200 out of pocket to replace it on my 04 Chevy Suburban.
