Rambler as a tow vehicle ?

AARP. I just called them, told them to please stop ALL mailings, FOREVER. They warned me it would take a while, as some of the vendors only purged lists every couple of months, but after about 6 months or so, the mail dropped to just a couple of items a year. Been quite a while since I last saw any mail from AARP and I am senior enough to have a America the Beautiful Senior Pass for the National Parks!

Learned this trick from my Dad. Got REAL tired of receiving all their mail as soon as I hit 50. So I would put everything inside their paid return envelope. This did NOT deter them! So I went with the "Nuclear" option. I cut a flat pc of lead and put in the envelope, THAT cost them some $$$, never heard from them again. Yes I said please don't send me any of your offers to me on every returned offer. Lead was free as it was removed from old Medical/Dental X-ray rooms.

If you don't understand the big deal to them it's because they pay for whatever weight the mailed item is.

I bought a 64 Rambler wagon for hauling building materials for my house. With the seats laid down, I could shove 2x10's up under the dash and have very little hanging beyond the tailgate, did much better than a standard pickup. With the trim removed around the rear window, I hauled 4x8 sheet materials. Paid $150 for it, ran it for a few years and got $50 when I sold it.

Funny you mention that. In 72-73 I had a 65 Impala convertible. I went to the auto wreckers and I bought the seats out of an old Rambler and I custom fit them into my Impala. And like you say, folded down to a big bed. Think I just did the front seat... don't remember for sure.
I had totally forgotten about that "custom mod" I did until you mentioned it! :B

I had a old 62 Rambler station wagon. Remember the uni-body, vacuum wipers, weather eye heater controls. Mine was the straight six with 3 in the tree. Another thing I remember about it was all the seats would fold flat including the front seat to make a giant bed. Another was the ground clearance was phenomenal for a car and it would go about anywhere.

We are all apparently old because we know what a Rambler is. Lol!

Never quite seen an engine grenade as bad as that one though! Only had like 30k mike on it at close to 30 years old and there may have been more parts on the ground than left in the engine!
Zero warning too. No tick/knock/noise, nothing just bam done at midnight on the freeway.

No oil will do that on occasion.

My first car was a 64 Rambler American with flat head 6 and 3 on the tree. Indestructible until someone in a newish full size early 70’s Chrysler turned in front of me and I couldn’t stop in time. The crash totaled both vehicles. It also had the vacuum wipers too, uphill or hard accelerate & no wipe.
