My 2010 F150 came with the rear camera. I never knew how nice this has been and don't know how I managed without one over the years...
I love this display setup with the foot markers and alarm beeps. When the view gets to the one foot mark the alarm tone goes steady. You can very easily see the trailer hitch go over the ball mount on the truck. first time everytime...
My camera lens is built into the FORD Emblem on the bottom. It could be higher up on the truck as I do get light glare sometimes when backing up at night so bad you can't see anything. I also get the alarm ON when water is dripping down off the FORD Emblem You can see the round black object below the FORD Emblem in this photo

If I was going to mount one on the back of my trailer it would up as high as I could get and point down to see the roadway behind. If it is going to be munted on thelicense plat or down tha low on the frame you will get a bunch of light refractions at night from vehicles behind you. Maybe being up high out of reach might make it harder to steal??? Most install I see on the rear of the trailers seem to be up high... Just my thoughts...
