recycling-how much aluminum is in average camper?

I have a wrecked 30 ft Zinger trailer, 2006 model. Local scrap yard says 41 cents/lb for scrap aluminum. Is it worth it to peel all the siding off? Have no idea how much weight the siding makes up

I will mirror what others have said, it probably won't be worth the time and expense of getting rid of all the non aluminum materials. I just converted a 27 foot into a car hauler and what I got out of the scrap metals was only enough to buy what was needed for conversion. I burned all the wood and have a dumpster at my shop to get rid of everything else, otherwise it would have been a negative endeavor. Best bet is see if a scrap yard may give you a price for the unit, I know some around here will do so. Usually a few dollars per hundred pounds, but less hassle.

Into a car hauler? Are the axels heavy duty enough for that??

The trailer had a 6K GVWR, I also cut the frame shorter. I do want to get it on a scale to see how heavy it is empty. FWIW though the car that is regularly carried is a lightweight drag car, so not concerned until I start carrying bigger stuff around.

OK, Thanks

Dual 5 lug axles are generally good for 7K gross .

During SXSW, there were people who shaved the VINs from a stripped trailer via an angle grinder, pulled the plates, and left the hulk for the city to deal with. Of course, tampering with VIN stamps is a class "A" misdemeanor under Texas law, but in all the hubbub (and the attempted killing spreee), those tend to be a lower priority for APD.

If you have a Freecycle or Craigslist, that might be an idea as well.

Another thought ... I was at a auto auction yard a while back and they had a TT that had had a fire and one of our local fire dept's was going to use to practice with ("junk" TT's don't come around very often) ... see if you could donate it to your local fire dept and take the tax deduction value.

I'm guessing a late model rig would have about 150-200 lbs. of siding and trim. If it was me, I'd strip everything of value if the insurance company doesn't care. As was posted, the appliances have the most value.

That late of a TT the frig, stove, water heater, furnace A/C will still have value on Craigslist if in good shape. If the whole TT is trashed put it on Craigslist for best offer, someone will buy it.

Not around here. Not everybody has crime you know. In fact if you set it on the street the city is going to give you a big fine .

Assuming the unit you're talking about is truly "junk". Rather than go through the hassle of tearing it down and fooling with all that insulation and everything else, I'd be inclined to stick a $50 sign on it at the next yard sale in your area and if somebody says they'll take it off your hands for free, let them have it. Make sure to remove your license tag and give them whatever paperwork you have and a Bill of Sale so they can license it if they end up wanting to.

I did the same thing that "Caveman Charlie" help do, turned an old trailer into a utility trailer.

The problem that I came across, when I recycled the aluminum, they wanted the "clean" aluminum seprarate from the "dirty". Clean, self explainatory. Dirty, was aluminum with the sealant, screws and framing still attached. Well it was already lumped together, so I only got paid at the "dirty" price. But it was enough to get rid of all the appliances and garbage to the dumps. I broke even, when done. :B

Wouldn't be worth it to me when you see the mess it makes. I've been by a couple places that wreck old mobile homes....Junk everywhere. All the insulation is exposed when you get the siding off. The cost of a dumpster and all the labor would wipe out anything you get for 50-60 pounds of aluminum..
