Refrigerator replacement

Been there, done that.

My 1995 Lance has an RM2510. (I think) I also wanted to update to a newer, more modern design but the physical layout of the cabinetry wouldn't allow for any other sized reefer. To get a new reefer in you have to partially disassemble it, as it won't fit through the door otherwise. It appears that the camper is built *around* the refrigerator.

A direct replacement is a Norcold N410/N410-3 or a Dometic RM2410.
New models should have better insulation and electronics.

When I went to pick up my camper, they had installed the wrong fridge. Fortunately I picked it up at the factory so the change out was done there. They had to remove the rear door to get the unit out/in. It was only a handful of screws then fighting the EternaBond used as a sealant, but they still ended up bending the door frame and put a new one on when finished, again another reason I was glad I picked it up at the factory.

I'm hoping I never have to replace the fridge...

Thanks, I'll ck out the Norcold N410 and see if I can find out the difference in a 95 RM2410 and the new RM2410.

Last year I replaced my RM2410 with a Dometic CR1110 (sometimes referenced as a CR110) compressor fridge in my 1995 Lance. It's very efficient...average power consumption of 45 watts.

I disassembled the RM2410 to get it out. I took the door off of the CR1110 and it fit into the camper sideways with 1/4" or so room to spare. Cabinet opening size is very close...I think I added 1/2" of oak trim to the cabinet sides and maybe a little on top. There are a couple of installs of this fridge in the University section of this forum.

My feeling is this fridge cools much better than the old RM2410.

FYI, I have upgraded my charge controller, rewired battery cables from charge/controller to batteries, increased battery box size to hold two group 31 batteries and installed 320 watts of solar... I can run this fridge easily whether connected to AC or boondocking for extended periods. I don't think you need all this enhanced capacity, but it does give me piece of mind that I'm set for extended periods with no power concerns.

Another FYI...I'm stocking my fridge even as we speak. Getting ready for a weekend of bow hunting in central California!

What I did:

Replaced RM2410 with CR140

I do find this particular compressor fridge is fairly electricity hungry, so wouldn't be ideal with my single battery if I didn't have my 160w of solar or stayed 3 or more nights in the same place without hook-up or driving.

However, it gets cold fairly quickly and doesn't care if you are parked for several hours at a weird angle.

It was narrower, taller and deeper than the RM2410.

If I were doing it again I might consider a small 40 litre Engel top-loading fridge. Much more electricity and space efficient, though not quite so compatible with the upright slot left by the old fridge.
