Regens in F350 often

Passive regen for the most part only occurs when towing heavy loads or pulling hills. With no load DPF temps will never get hot enough for passive regen to occur.

Correction don... A passive regen is the normal exhaust temp burning some of the particulates in the DPF. An active regen is when the exhaust temp is increased via diesel fuel/vapors is introduced into the exhaust to drive the temps way up to burn the particulates in the DPF.

Tory the only way to remove ash is to add heat so even a passive regeneration will raise the exhaust temps. Not as high as an active regeneration but higher than normal. Here is a good read on passive and active DPF regenerations link

Your reminder to drive to clean the exhaust message was because normal passive regen wasn't burning the particulates and/or active regens were never completed because theres no message to tell you a regen is in process and the DPF at 90% was about to reach critical mass.

This is why I like Fords method to display when a regen is in process so the driver can make a decision to drive the truck to complete a regen rather than to shut it down during a regen and have the excessive heat cook your turbo and also to allow the DPF to continue to build soot to the point where you're forced to drive until the regen process has been completed.

I had the drive to clean filter message when my 2011 truck was a couple of weeks old. Didn't record the mileage but it was well under 500 miles. I wonder if the computer goes thru a learning process when new and after a re-flash.

Maybe I'm crazy. I started with 2011 6.7 and had several free oil changes. Course they put in regular Ford oil. After free was over, I went back to Mobile full synthetic. I began to notice regen did not happen as often. Did the oil make the diff? Not sure. I now have a 2014 F30 DRW. I just don't notice region very often at all. also running the Mobile synthetic. Only thinking.

I hope it's not the reflash, as I just got mine done as well.

Will do.It may sort itself out like you say. I want to keep a close eyes as mine is a 2012 with only 52 k and warranty may be nearing? Emission warranty is longer though?...

I agree with you. I think its time to pull the injectors and an test for bleed down and pattern.

If it keeps doing it take it back to dealer and tell them. It could have been an issue with the reflash. Part of the reflash was for the emissions, and it could be causing yours to regen more than it should. After the reflash my miles per gallon went up for about 2 months, then I started getting a lot of regens like you, and some lasted for over 15 minutes, and the MPG's went down.
