Removing WDH at site

Can go either way. Depends on time of stay. If we're gonna be there awhile and drive around in the truck I take the hitch off and stow it in the pass through. If only a couple of days I MAY leave it on. But it would sure hurt to hit it. Takes only a minute to remove and stow.

When I unhook I put the bars on the ground under the A frame, and usually leave the hitch attached to the truck if I won't be doing much driving while camped.

And I leave the tailgate down so I don't bang my shins on the hitch when walking behind the truck.

I can't imagine removing the hitch while I have the TT with me. In fact, I leave mine on the truck for months at a time. If I know I won't be towing for several months, I might remove hitch head and store in garage; otherwise it is on truck with locking pin. Usually when I remove that hitch, it is because I will be towing something different and need a different hitch/ball combo.

I leave the hitch on the truck locked on and bars in the back of the pick up. With the Rock Guard the hitch is a pain to take off.

If I'm camping frequently, I'll leave the hitch on the truck for a month or two. That thing is too heavy for me to move around every time.

Leave it in. Just be careful when pulling in and out of a parking lot where the driveway is steep.

I stow the bars in the back seat of the truck and keep the WDH in the receiver - but use a locking pin. The only drawback to that is the noise it makes going down the road. I used to stow it int the pass-thru storage though. You just have to try different things to find what suits you.

Here is my solution for storing the spring bars. The hooks can be found in any good hardware store. Drill and tap holes to install. Works great.

Thank you, Bigbird! This is a great and economical solution. I'll add it to my list of mods to do in the spring after the 4 feet of snow has melted.

There is enough friction to keep the bars in place, even though I do grease the pivot points. The bars are attached to the hitch head with a metal pin and clip, which could easily be removed if someone wanted to steal it. No problems yet, though. I did put a locking hitch pin on last year.

I do the same. The bars don't just flop around. They stay put quite well. I also lock my bars to the hitch head, so they aren't going to be casually removed. The hitch head is also locked to the receiver. With the bars left on the hitch, there's less chance of nailing your shin too.
