Replacing the OTA TV Antenna

Getting OTA TV in Wyoming is not easy. The factory installed Jensen omnidirectional OTA TV antenna was not getting the job done, so I ordered the Winegard Sensar lV (batwing) and the Sensar Pro panel/amplifier to replace it. The Sensar Pro is installed & wired, but I am waiting for better weather to install the antenna. Punching a big hole in the roof and all the way through the ceiling is never easy, but I think I have it figured out. The main worry is watching out for wires and not hitting any. I'll try to report back on how successful I am and how the new antenna works.
  • Thanks for all the info and support. I couldn't work on the roof of the camper yesterday due to the wind & weather, but I am about to go get up on top right after I post this. Those positive reports are what convinced me to take on this project.
  • Upgraded to the Sensar IV batwing several years ago, and have been well pleased with results. Upgradedto the Sensar Pro panel this year, while we were in a weak signal area. After the upgrade, we had no problem receiving channels which were 65 miles away.(over flat land). Wel worth the small cost, installation was about 5 minutes.
  • We replaced our junk antenna 2 years ago with the batwing. We couldn't be be any happier with our decision. We chickened out on the install and had the dealer do it.
  • Oh, ya, Northwoods did us no favor when they switched from the Batwing to the Jensen hunk-o-junk.
My ceiling is too high for your solution. I have considered the motorized Batwing (deployment and rotation) but haven't yet.
  • Keep us updated.
I've been contemplating the same project,
but am intimidated by the idea of putting
a large hole in a leak free roof.

I certainly have had great success using my OEM BATWING antenna with the UHF DIPOLES for picking up the digital NATL BROADCAST high Def TV signals from the local towns...

Works great for us when we are away from the cable hookups.

Actually even we are at campgrounds with cable i still like to look at the local towns HDTV signals. Once you start watching full blown high def TV hard to go back to the standard TV coming from the cable hookups...
