We never dry camp and generally camp within a few hours of the house. My father was in the same position as you and didn't want to spend $1200 for a fridge.
Since a large percentage of people fear running the propane fridge while driving anyway... I'm sure many people would benefit from your advice. I hope your father has LT tires on his trailer LOL
