Said goodbye to a great truck today....

It is with mixed emotions that I announce the passing of one great truck (mixed emotions being defined as: Watching your mother in law drive off a cliff in your new Mercedes... but I digress). Two weeks ago we traded our 22' TT in on a nice Nexus Phantom Class C. With the trailer gone we had no further need for the truck so she had to go. Here is the add I posted on Craigslist Last Thursday:

I placed a half a dozen nice photos with the copy and Immediately got some calls. One gentleman called late Friday and we chatted for quite a while. He lived 40 miles away so I agreed to drive it down to his house for a look on Saturday morning. He loved it, said he was "coming after it" and would have the money lined up on Monday, Tuesday the latest. Turns out he was financing it through State Farm Insurance (I didn't know they did that). Not one word was spoken by either of us regarding price but the add clearly stated $9,500.

I gave him my word on a handshake that I would not sell it out from under him (as the phone continued to ring). I picked him up at 9 this morning and drove him to the Sate Farm Office where we closed the deal for $9,500 with his local Agent doing all of the paperwork. Pretty painless for me and I walked out with a check from SF.

He told me the truck was so nice he just couldn't haggle over the price and is delighted to have it. I told him that if he had half as much fun as we did he was in for a nice ride. In four years of ownership it never let me down or cost me a dime in anything but routine maintenance. I am really going to miss that truck. :(

Good looking truck......I'm surprised at the price. Haven't kept up with gasser resells but would have thought that was bottom end pricing.

Don't be surprised now that truck is sold you end up finding lots of use for that truck around the house :S

Enjoy your new RV........it will be different but same fun.

Desert Captain: Yeah, State Farm Bank offers vehicle financing through their most of their local agents. Very easy process, but more importantly their rates are frequently less than a lot of commercial banks, and sometimes lower than credit unions. I financed my truck and first RV through them. Now if they would just come back to earth in Florida with their auto insurance premiums..............

I wanted it to sell quickly and since it was so clean pricing it right seemed to be the way to go. Kelly Blue Book had it at $10300 for a private party sale in excellent condition, which it was. Dealers would have gone about $8K and then put it on the lot for $13/14K and taken $12 happily. On private party sales here in Arizona there is no sales tax, another $600+ saved by my buyer. All in all I think he got a great deal and since I did very well on the new C everybody wins and that my friends, IMHO, is always the best outcome.

We are out of here on Sunday with no return date in sight, first destination the gold fields of Northern California in Nevada City. Can't wait! BTW: My neighbor and best buddy across the street has a nice Avalanche that I have the keys to so any truck chores remain covered. I buy the gas and a beer or two and we call it even. :B

Love to have one for my around town errands.

Good story, must have been hard to let her go. I sold my old motorcycle this spring. It was old, needed some work, had some rust on it, was too small and underpowered. I bought a replacement last fall when prices were low and sold my old one in the spring when prices were high. I hadn't ridden it in months, convinced myself I didn't like it anymore.

When someone came to look at it and bought it... it started to hit me that I wouldn't get to rid it again. The wife and I were dating when I bought that 10 years earlier. She bought me the exhaust for my birthday one year. We picked out the seat together after that. Put a lot of miles and a lot of fun on that bike. Watching it get driven up on a trailer to leave our life forever, my wife started to cry and I have to admit that I got a little choked up.

Its amazing how we can get attached to memories of a mechanical object and become attached to it. Glad you had quick turnaround on your truck and hope you have a GREAT time with your class C. The first camping trip my bride and I took together (her first ever) was my parents old class C. It was underpowered, smelled musty, not very comfy, stove didn't work anymore, etc etc. She had a great time and soon after we bought a truck again and bought a camper. I will forever remember that old, beat down class C.

DesertCaptain, noticed the camper shell with the wind deflector. Was thinking about using that on mine in the future. Does it work? Was it worth the investment? Does it rattle and is it easy to remove/install?
