Said Goodbye to the Roo

Well after 7 years with our 2006 Roo 233 we said goodbye and traded her for a 2014 Forest River Salem 27dbud. Getting up in age me and the DW decided we needed less setup and take down time with the kids older and not always with us it was just time. The Salem is has all power systems as stabilizers, awning and front jack. Even a remote that can control these items plus the slide. The Roo served us well and gave us lots of problem free memories. Whomever becomes her new owner will be getting a trailer in great shape and should serve them well for years to come.

though i'm a native Californian, the DW is from Washington and all her family lives there.
that's the main reason we're retiring there but the DW is all too familiar with Washington weather and she's been spoiled by living in California for 45 years.
she's spent plenty of time there but has gotten pretty used to lots of sunshine living here.
our property is in the rainshadow, so we don't get that much rain but we won't be getting the amount of sun we're used to.
i'll be able to put up with the clouds and rain better than she will!

We had a 21SSO as well and changed to a hard sided trailer just about the time I retired. I loved the hybrid and will not speak ill of them. But, like all things, things change and so do our needs.

Welcome to Washington. It is a great state to go camping. It has an amazing diversity from rain forests to deserts, ocean beaches to sand dunes, farmlands to deep forests, rolling hills of wheat to mountains with lots of lakes. There are many campgrounds of the National, State and County variety as well as many places to camp free of charge. I just drove through Texas where 97% of the land is privately owned. Camping, hunting and fishing up here is a little more accessible to the common family.

yea, we had originally planned on getting a 5th wheel for retirement and becoming "rainbirds" and being gone for 6 months. but we would have to get a 3/4 ton truck to be able to pull it.

but we've decided to hold off on that for a couple of years and see how retirement fits us.

we may keep the Roo for those two years, it's just that the DW wants a real walkaround bed. i still love the canvas and have no problems with the bunk ends.:R
just looking at what would make Momma happy and still be able to tow with the Avalanche.

Anyone who doesn't feel that the compromises related to HTT's aren't rewarded in other ways really shouldn't own one. I would miss the real camping feel of bunks, and the airy feel when boondocking. Perhaps not ALL campers are as delicate as you?

he has readily admitted that he hasn't owned a hybrid.

Yup, went from our Starcraft 21SSO to a hardside. DW's knees wouldn't take climbing into the bunk end anymore. We like the faster setup / teardown but miss being able to unzip the end flaps for a breeze and a view.

We made the move - notice I didn't say "upgrade" - from our '07 ROO 23SS to our new Rockwood Ultra Lite 2604 for the same reasons as the OP. It's the perfect trailer for us at the perfect time. However, don't expect to not miss certain aspects of your ROO from time to time. I miss the larger kitchen area - we lost a bit of space, but it's still very workable. I miss the breezes coming through with the bunkends wide open. I miss unzipping one of the end flaps first thing in the morning and watching the birds in the nearby trees. And terribly miss the memories and where they were made with our ROO. Don't miss the extra set up and break down. Don't miss DH getting grumpy when I handed him the PUGS. Don't miss the smaller shower - gotta LOVE the garden shower in our Rocky. Congrats on the change and make a whole new set of great memories!

We did the same thing last March. Both the DSs are married and on their own now. We decided less sleeping area and more living area and of course less set up and take down was the way to go. We love our Kodiak which will still sleep 6 but it's just me and the DW now so it works for us. Best of luck with your new rig and many happy trips.
