We took our camper to Friday Harbor in October- $102 round trip. The Fairgrounds in FH has 7 RV spaces with power and water, free wifi, and a nice water view. As I recall it was $25/night. The B.C. Ferries no longer charge for overheight so we paid the same as a car up to the Sunshine Coast.

How much is taking a private tour boat around the islands? Or an hour in a float plane? With that in mind it doesn't seem so outrageous to spend 100-150 for a scenic boat ride through the islands where they'll take your truck and camper too! Spend the dough and do the trip if you want to go there. They don't put luggage racks on hearses!

WELL SAID! Thank you;

When my late DH and I had a boat, we cruised the San Juans and enjoyed their spectacular beauty, even while burning marine fuel at 10 gallons per hour :E. I would suggest, as have others, staying in Anacortes and riding the ferries through the islands. They are well worth the trip.

What's the advantage of San Juan vs Orcas Island, for example?

Ferry toll Anacortes to Friday Harbor is just under 60 bucks for your truck, and two adults.

Yes bring lots of money. Ferry is too expensive. San Juan Islands are small for camping. Very nice camping but not worth the ferry expense. Anytime you take a ferry and get charged by the length of the vehicle it gets expensive. Sometimes if you go mid week you get a small break on price.
My new DRW and camper on the truck the first time.

Anacortes to Sidney for our 40 footer is $133.00 plus $9.50 for each of us.

Google "" Ferry tolls "" and see their prices for your rig.

We took our F350 and 1181 camping in the San Juans a couple falls ago and had a great time. Yes, the ferrys were pricey but we budgeted and planned ahead. We don't tow so it was the rig or stay home.
You do have to shut off the propane on your rig while on the ferry and prepare to park closely to the walls and bulkheads.
Nice to sit back and enjoy the awesome scenery on the ferry.

I'm so close and I'd really like to go camping over there but the ferry rates are outrageous.

Thanks! I've been thinking about dropping the camper at Anacortes and then renting a house for a few days on the island.

We were talking to some Canadians this week about this same thing. They said our 34 ft rig will probably cost us $250. EACH WAY!!!!!!!

A few years ago we took our Class "C" from Sidney to Anacortes. Stopping at every island for a night or two. So what would have been a 3-4 hour ferry ride took us over a week. We spent 3 days on San Juan and really enjoyed it.

I'm not sure if it is the same now. But then there was no extra fare for heading East. So we could visit each island at no extra cost.
The less you plan the more options you have.
