We have decided to sell our TT in the spring. Kids are in college and high school. They are really busy with their own interests and we never use the TT anymore. When we travel now its to visit and stay with family in various parts of the country. I have been watching local ads both internet and paper to research prices. Looked online at the NADA site and those prices seem higher then what I am seeing locally.Given the condition of my TT I would put it at the higher end of the price range but I guess everyone thinks that about their own trailer. Was wondering if others could recommend any other sources and does my approach seem correct.Thanks

Probably wrong time of year to sell but ebay is a great way to gauge the price people are willing to pay for an item,Put the TT on ebay with the reserve set at the price you want/hope to get and see how high the price goes (great if it goes above the reserve !!).If it does not sell wait a while and try it again - see what is the highest bid. I've done this a few times when trying to determine the "worth" of an item - I set the reserve realistically where the highest bid was and the item sold.You probably may not sell the TT for what you WANT but you have to be realistic as well. It's like selling a motorcycle/convertible in October is less lucrative than selling it in April.I've used Craiglist but RVTrader seems to be a good source.Gerry

^^^Good advice. Check Ebay for COMPLETED listings and ACTUAL selling prices on similar RVs. You can also check RVTrader and get a good idea of ASKING prices. My assumption is that all those asking prices are optimistic, and actual selling prices are significantly lower.

Once about 7 years old any trailer by that time is realistically only worth at retail what someone else may be convinced to pay for it as it's book wholesale value will be so little so condition may help you here a bit. All it takes is one interested party though so good luck with it. :)

I agree with the others. In my experience NADA is high for RV's And I've used Craigslist, eBay, etc to determine market value.

You can take it to a dealer and ask what they'd give for it flat-out. At least there, you'd know what the BOTTOM figure is. Any amount above that is a plus.

NADA said my 25' 05 Springdale was worth $4,500, but I got half again that much in Las Vegas. Must be size and area, as others have mentioned. I've watched for something towable for my brother w/ a 1/2 Ton and they are really expensive down here, and if they're anywhere close to NADA they go fast.

Seriously, if you're not in a hurry just do some trial and error to gauge the market. Keep in mind it is a slow time of year so be realistic about how much time it will take. Spin by a dealer if it's convenient to see what they will offer you.... add 20% and list it on CL.

In my experience NADA is not accurate. And it's not really NADA's fault - with RVs there are just too many variables - time of year, local demand, condition, region/location, can't find exact model and/or options.

Well a great situation made better, kids are gone, now git out and enjoy that unit like it should be. :B

Or find some one and take a beating on the price. sell it spend the money on a worthless item and wish you had the trailer back.

Remember NADA gets its info from dealers only , the private market is less . Price it to sell . When I was looking for a used trailer , a large percent of the ones I looked at the sellers were up side down and wanted pay off .

Thanks for the input everybody. Some good points to consider. We are planning on selling in the spring. I am just doing the research now. We keep it at home so no storage fees are involved. I will check ebay.

I had a 2008 Springdale 266 RLL (26') and got $10,500 for it in trade when I got my new trailer earlier this year. The old one had a leak issue around the door and behind the couch. There was also some damage minor underneath from a tire blowout. We had traveled in it on a 3 month trip, lived in it for 8 months and took numerous weekend trips with it, so it got plenty of use and abuse, but we kept it clean and the dealer even commented that it was one of the most immaculate trailers he'd seen when getting a trade in. I didn't want to sell on the private market due to the leak issues, but got what I thought was a very fair price for the trade.

I say this because my old trailer and your trailer look of similar age and size and I don't think I could've sold mine privately for any more than $12k and that's without disclosing any leak issues. I wouldn't do that to someone, so I was quite happy with $10,500 and I still got a good deal on my new trailer.

Tried to sell mine this Summer. Not even one call. I priced it well below the lowest NADA retail price. It's in perfect condition, loaded with extras that I know are worth nothing when you sell. There is no market for used quality RV that is selling for close to what you can get a entry level model with all the cheap flashy stuff and 20 year financing on. Such is life. If selling be prepared to take a beating or plan to sit on it for a year or longer...I had the same experience with two other previous units I had for sale. NADA means nothing. Price it as compared to what is for sale online then go a couple thousand lower...

I realize the market in your area could be different, but watch what's selling and what's not. In WI I've seen larger trailers like yours sit for very long periods of time, as long as a year. Smaller trailers seem to sell in weeks. Just throwing that out there for you to consider.

Been down this road with a few friends trying to sell TT's and fivers . After 2 yrs. of trying to unload them they ended up taking a big hit and traded them for much less because 2 yrs. of sitting had passed. The 5th wheel started to leak and delaminated making it nearly worthless.
If its more than 5 yrs old it goes by condition and its value is less than you might think.
Some auto dealers will take anything you are willing to sell them because they have access to a dealers auction house. Are you in the market for a new car/truck ? Then it might be the right time to trade it , be done with it and offset the sales tax to make up what you are losing in the trade value .
