I just got back home last week from being in Southern Utah and Northern Arizona so I can help out a little. If you're going to be in Utah you should see the Arches and Canyonlands around Moab. South of there you could see the Valley of the Gods, Moki Dugway, Muley Point and Gooseneck State Park. Monument Valley is also a wonderful place to see and after that you should cross over into Northern Arizona and see Canyon de Chelly near Chinle. This is a place that I highly recommend. You should also make a stop in Flagstaff to see Walnut Canyon, Sunset Crater Volcano and the Wupatki Indian Ruins. These places are almost must sees. If you have time a short drive from Flagstaff to Sedona to see the Red Rocks would be worthwhile before heading on to the Grand Canyon. These are all the places the wife and I explored during our two month journey so I hope this helps out a little. Send me a PM if your interested in more places to see or routes to take.
this is a great trip.....you wont be disappointed... - bens170ExplorerCheck out Seligman, AZ part of the old Route 66. Be safe while traveling.
- polarbare21ExplorerThanks to all we are 3 days in.
- D_E_BishopExplorerDon't forget Great Sand Dunes NP E/O Wolf Creek Pass.
In Denver go see Red Rocks Amphitheater. - Freedom_49ExplorerDamn - you are in for an epic trip. Just slow down, take the back roads, and look around!
- zman-azExplorerI would head straight for Zion after kingman and skip az. When in Zion hike the narrows or angels landing. Kids will not forget either of those two hikes. Work your way to Capitol reef and then Colorado. As mentioned silver ton or ourray are great spots, especially if you have a 4x4.
- Buzzcut1Nomad IIMesa Verde then in SW Colorado go through Durango up onto the San Juan Skyway. You can stay in multiple camping areas in and around Silverton. Rent some jeeps and go play on trail in Silverton then continue up the Skyway. It is absolutely spectacular http://www.colorado.com/articles/colorado-scenic-byway-san-juan-skyway
- RangerzExplorerLeaving Kingman, take route 66 and stop at the Hackberry General store. Nice old General store and museum.
- polarbare21ExplorerWe will probably do our sight seeing on the return trip from Kingman Az.
My Mom is recovering from a couple of strokes in Kingman.
I think we will get to Kingman ASAP, then route up through AZ,UT, Southwest CO to Denver (RMNP & Estes Park etc)then make the home run.
Thanks for the great suggestions so far, and please keep them coming.
As far as kids being bored... yep probably, but you're right hopefully they will remember this trip in later years.
THANKS!!!
