Slide out bumper

I got tired of hitting my head when futzing around the camper with the slides out. One of these days I was going to cut myself pretty badly on the corners so I made 4 edge bumpers.

I bought a swimming noodle at Ace hardware, cut it into 4 pieces. Made a slit down the side and taped the bottom with duct tape and then with reflective tape.

Cheap and easy. Now as soon as the slides go out, I slip the bumpers on.
  • Cathy's head is right at the same height as the lower corner of the dinette slideout. So if she rounds the corner of the camper while looking at one of her 2 dogs, it might not be a good situation.

So after she uses the remote to extend the slideout, she slips the two "noodle corners" on the lower edges.

We did a similar thing with two sections of pool noodles, slitting them lengthwise. But I also poked a stiff wire through each one also lengthwise, bent then into a right angle and now they both form a 90 degree bend.

I wonder what you guys do down there?

The gas connection for the grill is under there as are the connections for electricity and CATV. Also the turnbuckles are down low as are the tires. Often if wearing a hat and looking down you don't see the slide.

What prompted me to finally make the bumpers was an 8 year old hitting her head. Luckily it was only a minor bump, but it could have ended in stitches or a lost eye.

Yep. Been doing the same for several years, but not before hitting my head on it more than once.
