Snow season Big Bear Lake

Hello, we want to go to Big Bear lake in California for Christmas. We have a 30ft travel trailer, pulled by a diesel truck. We usually get there from up North 247 from Barstow which runs into 18. This will be our first winter headed there. Does anyone know a way to the Lake during this time of the year when it is snowing? Thank You
  • Thank You Everyone. As of now, there is no snow at all, so maybe we will get lucky. Have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Or, if there's ice on the road which is common up there that time of year. Maybe on a sunny day in winter with no ice on the road, otherwise I wouldn't attempt it. Those are some steep (up and down) winding roads up there. Those roads can be an adventure even in the summer.
  • Fiverwheel is right. That's the easiest way up, any season. ..and we come from the LA area.
  • Serrano closes on the 28th of Nov. there are private RV parks open year round in the area. The weather is in the 20s at night now so be prepared!
To get there from Barstow, head up 18 from Apple Valley.

Are you thinking about Serrano? Check with the campground to make sure you can get in, ie, whether or not it will be open. I know they close Dogwood in Crestline around the end of October, but that's a Fed campround. Have been up there many times but not sure I would want to do it with snow on the road.
