We lock the deadbolt when traveling because we have had the door pop open and I have known others to have their door open also.
We also lock it when we are parked and the dogs are in it because we don't want the dogs being let out accidentally and they are priceless to us. let them take the steps or something else of value outside.
And we lock it because it is a deterrent to anybody inclined for easy pickins.
