surge protector

Whats a good surge protector for a Lance 820 that boondocks 90% of the time but will go to hook ups 10% thank you JB
  • Another vote for EMS. Not cheap but cheaper than dealing with damage that can result if you don't use one (or comparable product).
  • One other thing I really relied on with our EMSHW30C was the display. Having amps used at a glance was nice. We like to boil water with an electric pot and could tell when we had the spare amps to use it.
  • I hear progressive industries sold recently and the new owner don't seem to like to support the old warranty, especially if you mounted a hard wired one yourself. now they only work with stores.

Buy an EMS. Not a surge protector. They are 2 entirely different things. Do your research. Surge protector is a one use hit and done.

Progressive Industries and Surge Guard are company names.

Totally agree! I choose progressive Industries EMS 50 amp. If there is an electrical problem with the shore/electical post when you first hook up, the EMS will not let electricty enter into your RV. The EMS will also give you a digital read out telling you exactly where the electrical problem is located. If you are away for the day and the RV has a low or high voltage i.e. issue, the EMS will automatically shut down any electricity going into your RV.
Your right, Surge protectors provide will not give you good protection for all the electical appliances/devices. i.e. 1 burned out TV, stero, refrigerator can get really costly:(:(:(
  • I have a Progressive 50amp for the 5th wheel and a SurgeGuard 30amp for the camper. I have heard too many stories of the SurgeGuard failing, so now I use a 50 to 30 adapter and use the Progressive for both.
I also carry a 30 to 50 in case the campsite has only 30 amp service.
  • We have the Progressive Dynamics 30 amp surge protector. It is handy to quickly make sure the pedestal is wired correctly. Before buying this I just used a multi meter. We have never come across a bad pedestal or a surge but we rarely plug into power.
  • I bought a Progressive EMSHW30C in my last RV. Worked well and caught the occasional bad power situation. When it detects bad or reversed power it won't allow it in the rig. I would just get a new spot and usually be fine. I plan to get one for my new TC soon.
