- sonuvabugExplorerI have lots of experience with carrying and towing maxi-scooters starting with the older Honda Elite 250's, a Honda Big Ruckus, then our Suzuki Burgman 400 and now trailering both the Burgman 400 and a Honda Silver Wing.
Bottom line, when we bought the Burgman 400, it was simply too heavy for our E-350 based Class C to handle ... notwithstanding a custom built carrier which included a worm drive lift system and built in load binders for additional stability.
The key is your hitch receiver weight capacity. If your hitch receiver is not rated to carry the weight of the carrier plus the weight of a "wet" and farkled out Burgman 400 (i.e. top case, accessories etc), then I wouldn't risk it ... especially with the cantilevering you're bound to experience.
That's why we now trailer our maxi-scoots in a cargo trailer behind our F-250 diesel truck and TC using a custom fabricated hitch receiver extension to reach the trailer's coupler.
The Versa Haul could undoubtedly handle the load. The real question is, can your vehicle?
My $ 0.02 worth. ~ Bugjr ~ - pa_travelerExplorerThanks will look at Moto Tote. Just bought a 2013 burgman 400 so will need to haul it on truck camper.
- TxTigerExplorerYou might want to check into the MotoTote hitch carrier. Rated to 550 or 600 lbs. Really heavy duty construction.
- pa_travelerExplorerGood to hear would like the bigger 400 or 650. If I hear someone puts a 400 bergman on versa haul will get the 400 instead.
- deloshollyExplorerI cannot comment on the versahaul item, but I can tell you that Suzuki Burgmans are great scooters. We have owned a 650 since 2005 and have loved every mile riding it. We have been on several rides with Burgman 400's, and their owners always tell us how much they love them.
The 200 has only beemn available in the US for a couple of years, so I can only say that they are most likely made as well as the 650 and 400 are.
We do haul our 650 in an enclosed trailer, but it weighs more than 650lbs!!
Del - pa_travelerExplorerThanks ,good to know, probablly will get a versa haul.
- notevenExplorer IIII've hauled 500lbs bike on our Versahaul - no problem
except
You want a helper to get tied down - the Versahaul has no platform to drop a side stand on while you tie down.
I can tie my 250 dirt bike by myself, I set up the two front straps so I wheel the bike on the hauler then hook them up loosely and the bike will stand while I finish. I'm ok balancing the 250 for a second one handed while I grab a strap.
Not so comfortable doing this with a 500lbs tall dual sport...
