Sway bar advice

Never seen used or talked to anyone about
The use of one
Looking at a 28 ft sportsman kz has brackets
On the front which I assume is part of the sway
Bar issue. The seller has no knowledge to help
me.

I have F150 ford with the tow package

Any examples of what why when you use
Or wouldn't use. All info appreciated
  • big difference between weight distribution and sway control!!

weight distribution is accomplished with the two spring bars that connect the hitch to the aframe of the trailer. they transfer hitch weight to the front wheels of the tt

sway control is accomplished with a dampening device between the tt and truck, it works in the horizontal direction only.

weight distribution systems will do nothing for sway unless you get into the upper end(price wise) systems

we tow a 4000 lb tt(loaded) with a dodge Dakota, we use a good but not high end wd system and separate sway controller

The seller knows nothing about the WD hitch?

Yep that raises all sorts of "RED FLAGS" about this deal. The ole pig in a poke comes to mind on the condition of the trailer and it's maintenance history.

  • I wouldn't be with out weight distribution bars and a sway bar on any trailer over 18 feet.

  • Search for some WD pictures, you'll get the idea and might can even identify your exact assembled WD system. A TT that long could use, as Ken56 suggested, a WD/sway system not a friction bar. I used a dual cam WD for years.

  • The brackets are the snap latches for the chains of the WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION bars. Sway control with that hitch, and I am making assumptions here, will be a friction bar. Is there a small ball on the frame in front of the bracket? That's what the friction bar connects to. There are hitch systems with sway control built in such as Equal-I-zer brand. If he has the hitch and you can see what brand it is then use Google to look it up.
