Taboos? Open waste valves, Backing Mh W 4 down Etc.
I have often posted about supposed taboos in effort to educate that they are notimpossible, can be done safely, successfully with proaction, patience, knowledge ahead of myth.
Lets hear from you of your successes contrary to the nay sayers. Share your ways of doing safely, reasonably with resources what they say cant be done.
Edit placed the thread topic in the post. Hopefully you get the topic now. Share your presumably wrong way but works ideas.

I'm so confused.......what does some of this have to do with towing? or hauling? or life in general?
Like towing a 4000 lbs trailer with a 76 yota 3 miles across town? or getting pulled over at 27K lbs, with a truck registered at 26K lbs, factory gvwr is 18200.......NOT getting an overweight ticket! Going down the road at 20+K lbs with my 96 K3500 6.5TD NV4500 trans that was rated at 12500 GCWR! or the 45K in Navitar with a 175/335 IDI 7.3 motor that had a gcwr of 35000 lbs, and 18200 gvwr.........hmmmmmmmm........
Sounds like me grandpappy that moved down the road in his Model T pickumup at 35-40K lbs with a 4 banger that might have had some 100 hp at best! Granted teh top speed limit was what, 25-35 mph......

We've all done smart/stupid things. Some were actually thought about, ie how to do safe and sanely, others, well Darwin has not struck me yet!

Let's see...

Towed an ancient Oasis travel trailer over the Cascades when I was 20, with a Mazda pickup, with a hitch that was bolted to the bumper.

Drove an old Winnebago Indian motorhome to from the Seattle area to Helena, Montana in the dead of winter.

Hauled a large slide in camper in an F250 without a clue of what any of my weights were, using stake-pocket tie downs.

And the ultimate RV.net taboo, pulled a toad for thousands of miles WITHOUT A SUPPLEMENTAL BRAKING SYSTEM!! And yet I have never been arrested, sued, injured, maimed, killed...or even come close to hitting anyone.

Bought it brand new in 85, my parents made the down payment for me as a graduation gift. I beat the snot out of it for 5 years and 100,000 miles, had to have the rear end replaced under warranty but other than that it was a good car.

I guess my annual New Year resolution of not writing a snarky reply here counts.

However I just reviewed this year's posts and I only made it to 3/17...awe maybe more funny than snarky, at least one member thought so. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Carried 4 bicycles on the bicycle carrier attached to my sewer bumper and never had a problem. The bumper never broke off.

And yes, I "really" do, still drink from the old garden hose and from my fresh water tank. I'm 63 years old and ain't dead yet.

I backed my MH with toad on several occasions. no problem if you do it right. I'm always amused at posts saying that the tow bars aren't designed with enough strength pushing backwards. I think a little slow/straight pushing is a lot less strain than that when you have to slam on the brakes.

Towed my 4100 pound Funfinder travel trailer ( which I am right now sitting in ) or my 5000 plus pound horse trailer over 50K miles behind a Nissan Frontier.

I managed to stay out of the way of other traffic, even uphill, am able to control it on windy days and oh lordy I can even stop it all going downhill.

Lived to tell about it ( so far ! ).

Drove 70 and 75 MPH with ST tires and never had a flat with "China bombs"

Used tires for way more then 7 years.

Check bearings every 4 or 5 years and don't repack them if they don't need repacking.

Leave the fridge one while driving.

Feed my dog meat and vegetables from the table.

Drink water from the holding tank without sanitizing.

Never put chemicals in my black tank.

Never used a sway bar

Well lets see:

#1. Left my waste valves open most of the time for over 40 years of camping with no adverse affects.

#2. Drove 10's of thousands of miles at 70-75+ in ST tires with one tire in my life that shredded and that was due to low pressure from a nail/screw.

#3. Check bearing about every 7 or 8 years. Never lost a bearing on a trailer...........in over 40 years..............ever.

#4. Ran tires for sometimes over 10- 12 years. (see #2)

#5. Drank water with no water filter on my trailer from all parts of the county and never got sick.

#6. Drank out of a garden hose all of my life.

#7. Filled up with gas many times without turning off my water heater.

#8. Towed thousands of miles without a WD or sway control.

#9. Never flushed my waste tanks.

I'm sure there is a few more.
