Taboos? Open waste valves, Backing Mh W 4 down Etc.
I have often posted about supposed taboos in effort to educate that they are notimpossible, can be done safely, successfully with proaction, patience, knowledge ahead of myth.
Lets hear from you of your successes contrary to the nay sayers. Share your ways of doing safely, reasonably with resources what they say cant be done.
Edit placed the thread topic in the post. Hopefully you get the topic now. Share your presumably wrong way but works ideas.

Towed a pop up with a Chevy Chevette.

Both without incident btw.

that is my little secret. ๐Ÿ™‚

FYI-Chevy also made a Chevette diesel. BIL owned one-someone gave it to him. Really slow, so slow that you could probably snooze in the pop up while driving. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I would never advise anybody to do what I do.

It might be a different situation or I might be more skilled at doing a task.

The title of the thread was: Taboos? I'm just telling what "I" do.

Like they say on TV; "don't try this at home" "I'm a skilled professional."

You are wiser that you know. Just because you can do something, with a decade or two of experience, that you know is far from textbook, and you know MIGHT bite you in the butt next time you do it, doesn't mean it was a good idea to pass the idea on to others. Just because you have done something that you know is dangerous, stupid, or leaves you shaking your head, as you think back about it, doesn't mean you need to brag about it. Oddly, some folks take these life experiences and decide that they would make pretty good advice to pass on to others, regardless of the damage it may cause.

Sure you can back staight back with a tow bar, I've done it for hundreds of feet, with no issue. OTOH, I also assisted another camper as we sledge hammered his bar enough to get it to release from the car, after he destroyed it, backing up. I also cringed as a CG owner told me of a guest who didn't have a clue as to what he was doing, and directed his elderly wife to sit in the toad and steer, while he backed up. He broke her arm. I'm certainly not telling anybody that the manufacturer is wrong, and there are no issues with backing up, since I did it sucessfully.

Sure you can leave your black tank valve open, and maybe everything will be fine. You can also create the dreaded "Mount Poosouvious" where the dried pile of solids creates a cone under the tank inlet, that grows until it clogs the tank. Does everyone have the skill and experience to prevent this mess? Further more, why create this opportunity to create a mess in the first place, and finally, why recommend the practice to anybody else?

Some tales are best left to those times you are sitting around with friends, and not offered on forums like this, where thousands of noobs show up every year looking for help doing the right thing.

I once pushed a 38 foot class A motorhome off the highway and down an exit ramp when it died by starting up the 2001 Jeep Wrangler Toad while owner steered (muscled) the RV relying on our cell phones on speaker phone for communication ( never exceeded 15 MPH)

Iโ€™ve done the worst through......I dump my gray water in the.......woods, sometimes!
Since Iโ€™m already going to a firey place for that, Iโ€™ll admit dumping my black tank in the woods too, but only on my own property.

Let's see...

Towed an ancient Oasis travel trailer over the Cascades when I was 20, with a Mazda pickup, with a hitch that was bolted to the bumper.

Drove an old Winnebago Indian motorhome to from the Seattle area to Helena, Montana in the dead of winter.

Hauled a large slide in camper in an F250 without a clue of what any of my weights were, using stake-pocket tie downs.

And the ultimate RV.net taboo, pulled a toad for thousands of miles WITHOUT A SUPPLEMENTAL BRAKING SYSTEM!! And yet I have never been arrested, sued, injured, maimed, killed...or even come close to hitting anyone.

Oh, my, pulling a toad without a braking system; Been there, did that, clear across the country!
In fact, I towed a '63 Corvair Spyder from Northwestern Montana to Seattle with a home-made towbar clamped to the front bumper, behind a 1951 Ford F-1.
I towed a 32 foot triple slide fifth wheel at a GCW of over 21,000 lbs. with a 1994 Dodge 3500 CTD that was rated at 18,000 GCW.
I hauled firewood with a Chevy half ton 4X4 with three foot side-boards. The wood was split and stacked tightly in the bed of the truck, to the top of the side-boards.
In all of the above; nothing bent, nothing broke, nobody was injured or died.

Yeah, it seems to make more sense to talk about the smart things we did because we thought it through, rather the ignorant things we got away with due to dumb luck.

We towed a 16 foot Shasta trailer cross country with a '65 Mustang. Had a class 3 hitch welded to the "unibody" frame and never had a problem.

We got plenty of stares as we trucked along... :B
