On many occasions I have to hook up my TT without the DW's assistance so I am thinking that a rear camera might be a wise investment.. I have a 2002 F-250 and the only thing I can find is a license plate frame / camera setup.. Wireless is preferred for simplicity but... any suggestions on kits or systems that won't break the bank?

I bought this one years ago for hooking up to our TT...worked awesome, camera is magnetic...I now use it for hooking up the 5er..attached a steel plate on top of my bed cover aimed @ the hitch....plugs in to my 7 pin trailer outlet.

I always hitch up alone. If DW is along, she is free to be doing other activities. She normally takes care of interior prep, while I am doing the exterior.

With my camera / monitor system, I can put the ball under the trailer coupler, usually on first shot.

Check out my response in this thread.

I like my I-ball, the magnetic mount camera lets you position it anywhere. You can position it to watch side clearance on the blind side when backing the trailer, too.

I had a small 2.5 inch wireless from pepboys it was always getting interferrence when driving. Go another 3.5 inch from auto zone, again wireless and it is much better, little if any interference. Got it for around 100$ but have seen them in more expensive form lately. Wally world has it also.

X2 on the swift hitch. I have a 2004 F250 and I found one cheaper than the link here. I think I paid 129 of close to it. I love it. I can transfer it to another vehicle if necessary. I can also use it on the bumper of the TT as I am backing into a camping spot. It has proven to be very useful and I am glad I purchased it.

I have a $100 license plate mounted camera from Advance Auto. (Sale price by the way). If the primary purpose is backing into the trailer hitch and getting a peak over the high Ford tailgates in tight spaces, this set up is a good deal. I could buy three of them for the price of the more expensive brand.

On the other hand, the wireless is subject to interference. It is a cheap system and I don't expect its life to match the more expensive models.

I just posted a question on a trailer mounted camera. There are some systems that have both a truck mounted and a trailer mounted camera feeding to one monitor. When you plug in the trailer cam it over rides the truck cam. I have seen these both wireless and wired. I will probably go this route if I can figure out what to do with the perfectly good license cam I have.

Here is the link to my post on truck/trailer cams.
