Taking a breather from rv.net

I think I need a break; it seems lately that about 2 of 3 threads become argumentative, and the same skillets of hash get reheated over & over: half-ton bashing, Toyota bashing, GVW vs do what you want, get a dually, gas vs diesel, torque vs HP, etc etc

Worst part is that it's brought out negativity in me; over the past few months I've been in a handful of skirmishes and that never used to happen over the first several years I followed this forum.

So call me GSP...I need to step away for a while...if/when I come back it'll be fun to catch up.

In the meantime, enjoy your trucks, campers, and most importantly the people you camp with!

Good luck to you all.

Oh pleeeaasssee don't single me out, I was just pointing out that you sound like you're looking for a shoulder to cry on.
I'm still trying to figure out why you started this thread?
Do you feel like your being ignored?

Couldn't resist checking into my "goodbye for now" thread; does that qualify as returning? LOL

To most of you that posted, thank you, and thank you to the several of you that sent PMs.

Dreeder & Steve S, attitudes like yours are why I need a break. I used to ignore the negativity, but lately it bothers me which is why I need a mental vacation to hit the "reset" button.

I'd rather just spend some time away rather than continue getting into petty, silly exchanges with people that, if I met them at a campground as opposed to over the internet, would probably enjoy a burger & a beer with rather than poke fingers in one another's chest.

Being new here I must admit that I see some threads go on and on with the mine is better then yours attitude.
Then there's threads like this where I fee like I should be playing a violin as a person is looking for sympathy.
Like if you need a break have one, no one makes you stay or read every post.

It is what it is, all public forums have these issues, this forum is very mild in my opinion. Most people on here seem to be pretty polite. Of course threads like 1/2 ton vs 3/4 ton or gas vs. diesel are very opinionated and get out of line sometimes but thats just the way it is, no harm is actually done.
Most of the time when I see someone announce that they are leaving a forum it is because they get so frustrated that there opinion doesn't matter as much as they think it should, they take their ball and go home.

You'll be back. I don't post nearly as much as I used to. So much misinformation gets boring after a while. But I have learned that my truck can't do what I do with it regularly and it won't last nearly as long as it has while doing it. Very valuable information! With the price of new trucks and the lack of quality in RV's even including the high end units, this will probably be our last RV anyhow. I took a loaded Prius for a test drive last weekend. It was nice! The hotels we've stayed in lately have also been very nice. 558 mph at 35k ft is really nice! Might be time for a change.

If there is one thing I have noticed about this forum, and many like it, is that the posters that respond to a thread, think, without fail, that their opinion is absolute.

I like to think that when I post I have experience, or fact to back it up.

I am, however, generally open minded to the responses even if they differ with mine.

If it makes everyone feel better I have never blocked anyone on this forum. EVER. It is my belief everyone's opinion should matter. Right or wrong.

If I have disagreements with someone in one thread, I take their posts in the next thread with a neutral attitude. No point carrying a grudge. We may agree in the next thread.

I try to help with advice where I can and steer the OP from advice that may not be best solution. The brand loyalty and brand bashing is what gets me, I guess I don't have an allegiance to any one company because I see good and bad in all of them.

These forums are like most things in life and follow a "Bell curve". Throw out the 25% who have no clue, another 25% who think they know it all, and glean what you can from the middle 50% who might actually share something worth reading.

Happens every year about this time. This year is worse because even the folks in the south are getting frozen out. Usually those of us in the north camp vicariously through the southern snowbirds. Not so much this year. Come back in late Feb or March. Folks will be happy talking about getting their rigs ready again.

I agree with BManning. Sad to see that he and also BenK are gone from this forum. Always enjoyed their reasonable well informed opinions.

I don't check in that often either. I kind of thought things were smoothing out over here with everyone getting new rigs and them all being pretty darn good.

For some experienced RV'ers and forum users it is difficult to sit by and listen to dribble that is stupid, outright unsafe, and wrong without pointing out the issues. If some choose to view that as negativity then so be it. Perhaps they are not well suited to a public opinion forum. Then again they could lobby for a new forum rule that prevents disagreement to go along with some of the ridiculous rules we already have but I suspect it would be rather dull reading.
