Thanks for all the advice and good wishes on my back!!
Went to the VA surgeon in Portland. Quite a different story from the civilian surgeon in Boise that wanted to do a 4 vertebrae fusion!!
I knew that if I didn't need it the VA certainly wasn't going to suggest it. They get the same paycheck no matter how many surgeries they do!!! Anyway he said I was not ripe for a fusion. He could go in and relieve the stenosis and arthritis for a better quality of life but he would be removing bone that's needed for support. This would make a fusion necessary sooner.
So I have opted for no surgery, at least for a while. Lose some weight and do my exercises. I bought the McKenzie Method book on back therapy exercises which has helped a lot all ready!!!
So I'm pretty happy with this outcome. Just wanted to thank everyone for their advice and support.
