Think need new batteries, 07 5.9

My originals lasted 11 years on my 03 Dodge. Replaced the pair of them with Canadian Tire brand ones. They had the best warranty and price in my area.

When I retired, said I did not have a need to cut my hair any more, got me a job working 5 weeks a year, & this is my 5 weeks to work & today my only day off but it is the most fun job.

This last week it has been jacket weather & truck was getting hard to start on cold well cool morning. Sorry I did not tell y'all the check engine light had also come on. So wife took it into the local Dodge dealer & she said he adjusted something & tested the batteries said they were good. Said the check engine light was do to low voltage, what ever they did the light is out now & starts fine. They told wife we may want to get new batteries $150 each & $40 to install.

Well the check engine light is out now it is starting great, so I am going to leave the batteries alone. When we get back home Christmas day we will see how it starts if is real cold. Looks like most of you got at least 7 years & a lot got a few more. Thanks a lot.

Oh yes why I said what I did about walmart batteries. I was replacing walmart batteries in my bike every year. Three years ago replaced with a battery that cost a little more, but three years & still going strong. Also been on the road 10 years but back when had a stick house. Used walmart best battery with 3 year warranty. If I remember right they would only last 3 years + or - about 60 days. That said Walmart is a very good friend to RV'er I even got water when it was 10 below out of water & was turned off. Just have not had good luck with there batteries.

We got 13 years out of the OEM batteries. Replaced them due to age and the preemptive reasoning power of those of us who live in Alberta and expect our beasts to start after eight hours at -30*C without being plugged in. No it wasn't very happy, yet it started and after 5 minutes of warming up to get the PS loose enough to steer we went merrily down the hwy to home. Repeat the foregoing scenario as often as required during the course of our average winters.

We replaced the batteries with the Wal-Mart brand at $100.00 per plus taxes. So far so good going on the second year with them.

This is true for most. For me, my truck is a dedicated tow vehicle. If I'm towing the boat, I have 4 batteries for back-up if needed. If I have the camper, I have 5 batteries because the boat is always behind it. My vintage Cummins will start on one battery. Hopefully both batteries won't blow at the same time. If they do, I'll have to carry a battery all the way from the boat hooked to it.

Exide Edge AGM batteries .
These are similar to Optima batteries but significantly cheaper .
I paid $ 140 each for two from BiMart for group 78 for my 2002 gmc diesel pickup .
I rarely pitch a brand of pickup truck . I some times pitch a brand of tire .
But there are only two domestic makers of AGM batteries . Johnson Controls ( Optima ) and Exide ( EDGE ) .
If you do not know about AGM batteries then you can do some research .
They do not leak . They will stand a deeper discharge cycle . They recharge faster . And they last longer .
The Exide Edge may have a 4 year full replacement warranty if i recall correctly .
AGM batteries are just plain better .
The trick is finding the place that sells the EDGE , cheap .
In Oregon that is BiMart .

Red: Bought my '05 3500 in May of 2008, and replaced both OEM batteries with 75 month Interstates in June '08. Batteries croaked 47 months later. Didn't bother taking them back to my mechanic for pro rated replacement with the same batteries. Went to nearby NAPA store and picked up a pair of Exxide for about $50 less than Interstates with same power rating. First time I ever had a less than satisfactory experience with an Interstate product.

replaced the batteries in my 2005 dodge diesel last year,
on a cold morning they were getting a little slow,

I when with autozone, duralast yellow tops 850 cold cranking amps, which is 100 cca more than the originals.

$139 each and the boys did a very good job installing the batteries.

each battery has some type blanket or wrap around blanket that made it more difficult to install the batteries. They took care and every thing when right back into place as it should. they also checked the battery cable ends and put the proper lube on each post.

I kept the old batteries and planned to use them on my boat, but by spring they were both dead.

you do not want to be forced to change the batteries out in the backside of no where or have to install the wrong size battery as no-wheres-ville does not carry your size battery.

also change out both batteries at the same time and be sure to check out the battery cable ends!!!!!!!!!!!
