thoughts on a forest river surveyor cadet 226

Still just at the looking point, but saw a forest river surveyor cadet 226 the other day. Love the walk around bed, swivel tv, and island kitchen, oh and the shower. any one else have one . Wondering about the kitchen slide out. just has stove, microwave and pantry in it. Fridge is over by the door and sink is in the island so no worry about those 2.
thanks Judy
  • The only thing I saw that I would change is that little table at the dining booth. It might be OK if there are only two of you, but if more than that are going to eat inside, the table would get very crowded.

We had the same thing in our Cougar 25RLS and changed the booth to bench seating with a table almost twice as large. Seats four with no problem. It might not be as convenient for TV watching, though.
  • The Surveyor is one of the better built fiberglass sided trailers made by Forest River. When we bought our Shamrock Hybrid back in 2007 we thought it (Surveyor) was a sister unit to the Rockwood and Flagstaff lines produced in Fr's Millersburg plant. It is made in a different factory using a full aluminum frame ( roof, walls and floor) versus the partial used in our Shamrock or Roo. I've read good reviews on the fit and finish as well. Can-Am Trailers here in Canada only carries premium proven brands and the Surveyor is one of them . The Cadet 226 looks like a very functional floorplan for two people.

  • When we purchased our current TT, we looked at, and really wanted, a surveyor (a TT, not a hybrid)but I could not get the dealer to come to the price I wanted to pay. We really liked the build quality and all the extras FR includes that many add as optional.

I was picking my TT up at the dealer after having a few things fixed before the warranty ran out. Overheard one of the salesmen tell someone that many people who buy a Surveyor will buy another one. That could be total BS but I can see where it might be true
  • That's a pretty nice layout for a 25" trailer. We have a 2012 Surveyor Select and could not be happier. Built relatively well, with very few problems. if you go with a FR, make sure you purchase the FR 2nd year warranty for $150. Dealer won't tell you about it but you can find the form on the FR forum link above.
  • yep wood glue i checked and you can use the restroom with the slides in. Would like to see a little more clearance between the jacks and the ground. But over all I really like it. Will see what they think my Keystone Energy toyhauler is worth.

  • Can you use the restroom with the slide ins, in? Looks to me like that's a no go situation, especially since they mounted the door on the wrong hinges. Had they mounted the door on the other side, I think you'd be able to get into the bathroom while underway. It's always little details that end up being a "gotcha"

    Just something to think about.

  • Nice unit! I like that the bed is a true queen - ours is the shorter version and we're fine with it, but would have preferred the 60 x 80. Like the dinette and the number of windows. It says something like "corner shower", but it looks like what FR calls a "garden shower" in our Rockwood - huge improvement over the standard smaller corner shower. Like the island and also the work space by the stove. Looks like good storage and I like the pull out drawers/shelves in the kitchen. Only downside I see is no sofa, which we use a lot. You'll be at the dinette to watch TV....unless I just missed it.

Before we bought out HTT in '06 we looked at a Surveyor and they are nicely finished and appear to be very well built. Don't know that there are a lot of Surveyor owners here, but surely some will chime in.
