I was going to buy new tires before the winter weather came around, but the prices were kind of high so I decided to wait...well, prices are higher now and going up! Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear all north of $300/tire with some of the better tires at or a little over $400/tire :E

First pic NOT blowout but was tread loss. Second pic IS a blowout caused by tread loss then it blew. I had temp and visual checked one out before towing 60mph and 70 degrees out.

I think these tires simply don't like being ran close to max weight rating. Ran them on last DRV thousands of miles with zero issues. Hoping these monster Continental's do the job!!!

Both are GY "H" 17.5's.

Thanks for clarifying what constitutes a tire failure, in your mind.

I "think" for the rest of the world, tread separation, blowout, bubble in the sidewall, broken belt bulge, are pretty much all equally considered a tire failure.

Never scrimped on tires and with way over one million miles under my belt I have had ONE blowout.

One blowout? Didn’t you just start a thread about losing more than one tire just on your trailer in the last year or however long?

OK, I will repeat my self. ONE blow out!!!

First pic is tread separation November 21. This tire caused $5,200 damage including the tire.

Second pic my wife changing a blow out in November 2020. All four were replaced by GY that winter.

She actually enjoyed helping. We had it changed and back on the road in under 30 minutes.

We were westbound Hwy 10 between AZ and Palm Springs, CA. Right slong side the road. Used the 6point leveling.

OP update: I stayed with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, but in the stock 275/70-18 size. Some of you may recall when I bought this truck it had these tires in 325/65-18 size, they looked badazz, and handled the camper well, but not what you want when towing heavy. These are stock 18x8 wheels. As an aside, the search function has a gap between 2020 and 2013 so I can't link to that post.

Anyway, $1431.08 out the door. *sigh*

Here's what the old tires looked like on the truck:

A good 5" wider than the stock size:

Buit since we don't camp on the beach anymore it's all good.

I’ve been super happy with my Cooper tires. Reasonable price, good traction, good wear.

Time for new tires , I too looking at the Cooper AT3 XLT , reasonably priced ,just have never run a set.

Presently running the Toyo AT2's , I like the tire ,other then I thought I would get a bit better than I did out of them. If I wasn't towing a fifth wheel, and pushed them right to the wear bars ,maybe 40K. As is I don't want to push them.

I really liked the BFG KO AT's down to about the 50% wear out point. They are in my view one of the best AT tires on ice in that first 50%. Probably do to all the sipes and cuts they just do a great job planting the pickup on snow packed/icy roads. My issue was how fast they would wear out. Every year (for 9 years) I would replace two of the tires due to wear, right before Winter. It seems like towing really wore them down fast. Not great cutting fresh snow, even when new, but decent enough.

They seem to wear really well on lighter vehicles, but wear like crazy on HD diesel trucks. I ran a set on a Ranger 4x4 for work and they wore like steel.

Ran a couple sets of these on my 05 Super Duty and would get maybe 35k miles on these.

I was a fan of BFG AT tires and had excellent durability from them until I purchased a set of BFG AT 2 tires. My truck exhibited death wobble 2 times with them and was lucky to get 40k miles out of them. We don't even use them on our farm/ranch trucks anymore. Crazy thing is BFG is owned by Michelin which doesn't make any sense.

I know, but have bought two sets recently - four each time - and have no issues. I know it kills to have one-two fail. But over the lifetime of BFG and my trucks - forty years ... have had only one bad tire, a rear SW 2500HD - after several thousand miles - and BFG replaced TWO so wear would match on the partner tire. Can't complain 🙂
