Tires

Have Michelin LTX. LT275/70/18. 10ply. Had tread separation and not happy with mileage. Has anyone had Cooper? If so which tire. Going on 2011 3500 GMC are. Pulling 14500# fiver.
  • The Falcons would be a good choice. I have had good luck with Nitto G2's. I run the Nitto EXO Grappler on my 3500, probably more aggressive than your looking for. Hankook ATM is a decent tire as well.
  • I'm on my second set of Cooper AT3s in 10 ply. I got 40k miles on the first set, but I'm horrible about getting them rotated, and all my miles are in town, unless I'm towing. I've got 12k miles on the second set, and they look new.

They ride better than the wild country's I had, and were much quieter. Good wet weather traction, and good dry. I'm in Georgia, so they have only seen snow like twice, and seemed to do well, but not an expert on that.
  • I ran Continental tires that only lasted 30,000 miles and the Michelin LTX had much better wear than the previous. I went to 19.5" tires after that and have not worn out a set that has not aged out first.

How much weight is on the rear of your truck when you have the FW loaded and filled? I switched to 19.5's because I was loaded at 7500 lbs on the rear and did not feel confident in the load bearing of those tires even though they were labeled for more.
  • I too have had good luck thru the years with Cooper tires. As noted, like all bigger brands, they have made for _______ along with their own.
I have yet to have tread, interior separations, unlike the big M that everyone sees to push.

  • A tire maker like Cooper/others may have several lines of LT tires to choose from. One line can be better than another for your size truck.....load carrying requirements......traction needs and long term service.

Which Cooper LT tire line are you interested in ??

I've used Cooper LT and P tires over the years and always had good results. The last Cooper LT E I used the SRM II which were discontinued and replaced with the Discoverer HT 3. Cooper recommends them for commercial service.
  • I had good luck with Coopers on a couple 1/2 ton trucks but never ran any 10 plys.
I'm running Falken's Wildpeak A/T3W 10ply on my 3/4 Ford. Have about 25,000 miles on them and no problems wear is good guessing I'll get another 25,000 out of them.
Great reviews on them I would buy again.
  • I put a set of BF Goodrich commercial t/a tires on mine. They seem like they will last ok, and traction seems good. They do seem louder than Michelins.
  • Goodrich AT/2 tires lasted a long time on our truck, wish I had them now.
  • Has Cooper HT3 on my truck. At 27,000 miles I was almost down to the bars. No issues other than that.
