Tires

Okay, so I am looking at going going up to 185's from my 175's.(175/80R13) the problem is it looks like my tires occasionally rub the inside of the fenders. can I put 8mm wheel spacers on a trailer? will the stud length be okay?

I put new tires on my hybrid a few years ago got Triangle tires went from load C to D, really like the Triangles no uneven wear.
The tire shop I go to said he has been putting Triangle tires on alot of dump trailers and campers and has not one person complain about them.

Replacing tires on our camper this week, our local trailer service shop (3 miles from home) really likes Triangle tires, says he has had good luck with them. I opted for Carlisle, a bit more expensive but higher load rating with 185/8013r. I agree with others that you might consider going to the 185 width.

Would have ordered Maxxis otherwise but cannot beat the convenience of dealing with my local guy.

In addition to the higher load rating, my other reason for going to 14 inch wheels is that it allows a larger diameter tire. This in turn slows the bearing rotation speed thus reducing heat and increasing bearing life. Also a little more road clearance is another plus.

I also had 13 inch tires on our single axle hybrid. I found they were maxed on weight and wore out after one trip from Texas to Colorado. I upgraded to a 14" aluminum wheel and Hankook RA08 195R14C. I personally think it has been one of the best purchases I have made since buying the camper. No more worries about overloading and blow outs. The tires have been great and still look close to new after 3 years and many long trips including a trip to Yellowstone from Texas.

I had same size as you stock, in a C load range good for 1,360 pounds each. I upgraded to 185/80R13 in a load range D, good for 1,720 pounds each. Not much available, I got Westlake Super ST, Chinese, but so far happy with them

X2, same experience here. Though my hybrid has the same size tires as the OP. When it comes time to replace I will probably get something other than TowMax.

Several of us on the Jayco Owners forum did a bit of unscientific research. If you search online and in this forum you'll find that almost all of the Towmax issues are with 15" and 16" ST tires. A few 14", and I cannot find any issues with their 13" tires.

After this post and yesterday's, I will look at Marathons or Maxxis tires. Our 2016 TT tires have worn uneven and one was tread bear in the center. A tire store told me they wore uneven because they are bias tires rather than radials. I will be lookin soon. We did pull the TT about 12,000 miles this year, but I thought they would get a lot more miles.

This must be a small Hybrid with tires that small. I have the Towmax on my HTT, and no issues. I also have 2000+ pound of reserve capacity on the tires, so they are not really loaded down. Keep them aired up properly, they both should be ok on a HTT. But personally, if I was to buy new tires for my HTT, I would lean with the Marathons or Maxxis tires.
