tires

I know this topic is worn out but I need new tires B4 end of season.

Choices are Carlisle, Commodore, GY Marathon or Maxis

I do not plan to keep the trailer longer than a couple years so I not sure about the top of the line- Maxis or Marathon.

Anyone have or know about Commodore?? They are the cheapest and the sales guy said they are most likely all made in the same factory in you guessed it ,China.

Get a new one of each brand on each rim. Then report back in a couple years.

I increased one size and two load ranges over OE. More to it than just price, brand, or luck. Have fun.

Cool Breeze has it right .
Load rating in pounds is more important than brand .
Maxxis is not "proven " .
That is a myth perpetuated on this forum and not supported elsewhere .
If you have an 1820 # rated tire find one that is a 2200# tire or higher .
You can do that cheaply at time of replacement .
If you have load range C go to a load range D ( or E ).
    If you have 205/75 go to a 225/75 .
Tire Rack charts are your friend .
Search Trailer tires and you can easily see what each size has for weight rating.

you are kidding, right ? !:)

you do know there was a thread that just closed on this topic that went 252 replies. Might want to kick back for a little reading there. I suspect you can find an answer in there somewhere that will make you happy.....

  • I see you live in Les Schwab Country.

We've bought tires from them for years including trailer tires for both the big equipment trailers and the smaller RV/boat trailers. Prices are very competitive and the service is unbeatable. Dunno who makes their "store" brand ST's, but they're serving us well on more than one trailer at the moment.

For the record, in thirty years of buying Les Schwab tires, the only "failure" we've ever had was a right front blowout on a Ford 3/4 ton...and I wouldn't like to admit to how old that tire was.
( Not that such an event is ever due to owner neglect...;) )
  • Maxis are special order around here ,not sure the price but Marathons are in stock about $500.00 for 4
  • Even for just two years, I would buy the best tire I could afford. In over 30 years of towing, I haven't spent a minute by the side of the road because of a trailer tire failure. Good luck.
  • If your keeping the trailer for just two years I would put the cheapest ST tire on it.
Right now Maxxis has the best "proven" ST tire track record.
