Toilet not closing all the time

Lately the toilet in our TT has not been closing all of the way. I've cleaned it and I've made sure the gasket has been cleaned also. I was wondering if anyone has tried WD 40 or some other lubricant. Would that work or would it eat away the seal? How about waxing the slide?

It's likely got "stuff" in the pivot points and in the groove, as mentioned. I finally had to put a seal kit in ours because it got to be a real pain. If you do take it apart, I used silicone plumber's grease everywhere that even looked like it moves. After two years, it's starting to not close the whole way again. I think on some level, it's the nature of the beast. Another mediocre execution of a mediocre design.

or you could try mineral oil, 1.29 a bottle. bet it works. now its all happy-camping

Plumbers grease helped mine for awhile. Then it acted up for just a short time. Now it's like new. I guess something was stuck or grabbing.

Sometimes there gets to be a mineral buildup...try putting some CLR in the bowl and let it soak for a while.

hddecker-I tried the coat hanger, didn't find anything...
The problem is that it only sticks sometimes. I'll try the silicone and hopefully that works. It drives me crazy!

The manual on my toilet says periodically use silicon lubricant. I use silcon plumbing lubricant especially for gaskets.

Most likely a piece of TP has made it's way into the grove.

I had that problem in my old Airstream, I was all for taking the toilet apart to put a new seal in. Luckily I went into a small independent RV repair place and the tech told me to take a coat hanger and run it " VERY GENTLY" around the grove in the seal.

Guess what I found. Yep a chunk on TP lodged in the grove stopping the valve from closing.

If you are going to use a lubricant then as Grandpere said use silicone, it will not attack the rubber. While your at it clean all of your rubber weather stripping on the camper and you motor vehicles and treat them as well.

You don't need to pay RV prices for the same product that you can get at an auto store for half the money.

After a good cleaning with dish soap and water, wait for it to dry then use a silicon spray lubricant. It will not harm the seal and will lube up the door. You may have to repeat this process, but it will buy you more time before you have to replace it or get a whole new toilet.
