I'm about to leave work, and pick up the camper from storage. I had the batteries at the house to charge and left them there. If I plug in the 7 way will the tongue jack work? I know it will provide power when the batteries are low, but I've never tried it with out them.

I am thinking the same as Newman, a pair of jumpers from the TV battery to the TT battery cables, taped so they do not short out, and power it that way. Or directly from the TV battery to the jack wires which ever is easiest. Good luck

I doubt it, but it's possible. Go try it and let us know. You might uses a rock on the throttle to raise the alternator RPMs to put out more power through those little wires going to the plug.Bill

I've done it before. Picked up a rental TT for work, no battery to be found. Light cord was able to run the jack. Plugged it in to 110 before I tried to move the slide....

Usually the jacks power wire is seperate from the wire running to the RV. So if you plugged the 7way in you would have to find a way to clamp the Jack wire to the house wire.

But either way, it sounds like you solved your problem by forgetting the hitch.

You didn't by chance plug the TT into the truck before hooking up the batteries to see if the truck would power the jack did you?

Thanks for the replies. I actually realized about half way to the storage place that not only did I forget the batteries, but also my hitch, so I had to run the the house anyway, it's only about 2 miles away.

It was a really crazy week and work, and I've been going in about six directions. Luckily now I'm sitting in camper at the lake.

Life is good!!!

If your trailer is heavy enough to require brakes then you MUST have a WORKING EMERGENCY BREAKAWAY SYSTEM.

The breakaway system IS POWERED BY THE TRAILER BATTERY and will not function if the trailer breaks away and the electrical connection is severed.

Go back home and grab your battery, be safe and do the right thing.

How far do you have to backtrack to get the batteries? I'd be sweating a drive without a battery hooked up. It would be my luck that the trailer came off and no battery for emergency braking.

If the power jacks + wire needs to be connected to the battery, then without one, plugging in your 7 pin won't do a thing with the jack..

You will have to power up the jacks + wire one way or the other..
