- ThreebigfordsExplorerObviously 2WD won't work for most of the U.S. where white stuff does in fact fall on occasion. Didn't it even snow recently in Texas?? Well...I guess having options is a good thing right?...but wouldn't there be more demand for the wide track front axle in 350 DRW than a 2WD F450?
On Edit, I just don't see anyone buying a 2WD to save 340 lbs of payload capacity. I'd run overloaded by 340 lbs if I was THAT close to max payload, just for the peace of mind of 4WD and the low range that goes with it.
I know I was sure happy to have 4WD on this trip last week!
And yes...the Xmas wreath DOES light up! Travlingman wrote:

Ok, am I the only one that clicked on the link and actually read the article? Since when does Ford make a 2WD F450?? Is this new for 2018? If so....WHY??
It is new for 2018. Guess they saw a market for it, so they made it.
Excluding the oil field hot shotters most here run highways and never use 4wd. In addition the 2wd with less weight increase towing capacity.- TravlingmanExplorer II

- 1stgenfarmboyExplorerYeh I know.
I don't even tow with it anymore, I bought a gas truck, but my old truck will tow very heavy up steep hills with very little smoke and sub 1,200*.
It's a long way from having a shop bolt on a cold air filter and exhaust with a programer. - StirCrazyModerator

But I can put a really nice set injectors in my truck for $600 for 6, your 16 will cost more than that for 1.
you can have your computerized, DEF, high priced diesel truck.
I will take my old work horse that I have $6,600 in the entire truck that will run 13.4 sec 1/4, and tow 20k lbs of tractors all day long.
those new things do ride a little smoother.
I used to be you, then I traded in my heavily modded 99 F250 7.3 on a 14 f350, even thought the 99 had more torque than my 14 the 4 out tows it all day long, is quiet, handles better........the only thing better with the 99 was the empty performance racing around town......
the 99 had 435ho and 900 ftlbs, the 14 has 400/800 and tows way better.

And towing just got easier with the medium duty 6.7 Power Stroke and Torque Shift transmission.
LOL, so maybe it won't come in dead last on the big pull next time? ;) :B
So if that "big pull" is your yardstick ... you need a Chevy.
Yep, I know my lowly G56 equipped Cummins would be last up the hill but I’m perfectly fine with that. I was referring to last years test where the Ford with the top hp and torque ratings came in last in the climb. I’m still trying to figure it out.......:h - AFChief_and_PilExplorer

If it were all about money I would buy an old truck and modify it. But it's not just about money, so, for the little bit more cost to run a new truck I'll gladly run the new one......even if I have to choke on your smoke going up the hill.
Depending on how long the hill is will determine how long you will have to choke on his smoke. I mean he has a truck that will run 13.4 sec quarter mile at a time. If he has 20K worth of tractors behind him pulling a 7% grade then unless he has $3k worth of cooling system cooling all that hp in that $6,600 truck he will make it about a quarter mile then melt it down. LOL - 1stgenfarmboyExplorerWhat ever makes you feel good.
