Tow Vehicle Tire Question?

good luck with that, I have had at least one set of Michelins on my truck and one set on my van that side wall cracked.

but I understand the newer one's they have changed their outer covering rubber mix and have solved that problem.
I when back with the Michelins because of the way they drive and ride, with a big heavy truck and truck tire, it takes a good quality well balanced tire to give you a smooth ride. The new Michelins do that and yes they did cost a lot but ride and drive fine.
so far with new shocks and tires the old dodge drives good.

I had the Firestone Transforce 245/70R17 tires provided by the factory on my truck. They were good tires in terms of handling, load capacity of 3195@80 PSI, good tire life, and very quiet for a moderately A/T truck tire. They do need to be fully inflated for even tread wear going by the truck manufacturer's recommened front and rear pressure specs and not using the tire manufacturer's load capacity table.

I replaced them with Nitto Terra Grappler 285/70R17 tires and found that in addition to the 3750 load capacity they provided a firmer ride with better handling with a full load in the bed on the corners. Oddly enough with a full load on the rear axle the new tires with the load were the same height as the stock tires without a load so my speedometer and odometer were more acccurate with the new tires when traveling.

I ordered the Michelin's today for old Dodgie do right.

my truck has the A/S, so I got the A/S, do not really know what that means.
but I liked the old one's so I should like these.

mama bear will be happy knowing she is knee deep in rubber

will take the best one off the ground and place it on my spare rim.

dealer told me not to sell the old spare as it is 8 years old, but it's never seen daylight up under the truck.

may not be able to get rid of any of the old one's, even though they have tread life left in them.

My '05 Dodge came with BFG Rugged Trail T/A, first set lasted 67K, second set lasted 91K, I have just over 40K on the 3rd set, with 1/2 tread left.

I have TransForce on my GMC and they work great on dry pavement.

Is crushed walnuts and crushed glass the new invention on tires? With the "Watchman" name and price I will stick with something better known.:) That's cheaper than the "China" bombs put on our RV's.

sounds good, but I live in backwoods western KY, Murray, KY area.

here, you have to order the tires and they are delivered by horseback, crossing KY lake is really a challenge for them.

we just lost our local Michelin dealer, lack of business or poor service, so I have to get my tires from a independent dealer that handles many brands of tires.

I understand completely. My point is I am also not in a big city with several dealers, just small town America with one family owned independent tire dealer. I won't even go 20 miles out of my way to next nearest town to get tires. Just my .02 worth. Have a good day.
