I have a homemade version of the super hitch. I simply showed it to my trailer shop welder, and bought a 2nd receiver from the farm store and he welded it together.

Now I only have a 9 1/2 ft and can use a 14" extension. This spring I plan on welding a 2nd receiver tube together to make the hitch extension.

I tow about 5k, with 2 atvs and a side by side on a 16ft trailer.

How does one figure out the correct setup? Regular Super hitch or Magnum? 48" or 60" supertruss? I have a Lance 1172...what is the ideal length the hitch should be at so not to cause problem with rear of camper?

Here's how Torklift specifies how to measure for the correct extension length.Hitch ext.

torklift superhitch and super truss extension. piece of cake

That's what I use.

They are nice products (made in Washington State) but aren't cheap.

I have been looking at hitches and the best options and do not have a camper yet. I went with the super hitch magnum as my truck already had a 18k hitch couldn't see down grading. It and the torklift tie downs are in the garage and should be installed this weekend. It is a great option but can be pricey.

usmcshepherd if you go to lance Support they have info on the reese extensions looks like the 1172 is 48" cut down to 41". They don't list super hitch items but I thinks that's their deal with reese. I know cause I have the brochure at home as we looked at lance campers this past weekend.

To the original poster candjmc what is your current set up and the weight of your trailer. If you have a class 5 with a 2 1/2 rec you can use a reese extension (adapter 2 1/2 to 2 in) and cut down to the length they are cheaper than the super hitch. Or if you have a class 4 2" and a light trailer atv combo you can use just an extension up to I think 14 or 18 inches. Most of them reduce tongue and tow weight by half.

As I said I think the super hitch is a great idea and looks to be a great product, however can be pricey depending on needs and what you have. It will fit my needs as I go forward.

Just my 2 cents and worth what paid for. ๐Ÿ™‚

The ball should be at least at the back edge of the camper. This will keep the pivot point at a place where you can turn and go through dips without camper contacting the trailer. My ball sits just behind my camper.

Agreed on ball location but don't go any longer than required. I miscalculated and could have gone with a Super Truss the next increment shorter. Every inch of extension is just that much more leverage. That and I clock my shin if not thinking.
