It doesn't require more brake pressure to hold the truck at idle. It has a much lower stall speed, though, which is what I needed. My application requires heavy pulling at speeds below 10 mph so I used a planetary gear set out of an overdrive transmission. If memory serves me right my first gear ratio is 2.72:1. You might not want the diesel converter for your application.
