Trailers without shower surrounds?

I feel dumb by asking this, but why do some brands of trailers ship models with no shower surround? The wallpaper they use is definitely not waterproof, and it seems like it is asking for water intrusion and rot around the tub.

For rigs that don't have a surround, what are some useful ways to make the shower area waterproof? My personal way is not to buy a rig that doesn't have a liner, but that may not be doable everywhere.

If you are really concerned with the wall coverings, you could always cover them with Lexan or acrylic plastic. Seal all the edges and the water won't reach the wall surface.

Another alternative is to treat the wall paper surfaces with a conformal coating that will not react with the paper or glue but is water resistant. This would be like painting onto the surface of the walls. Painting the entire shower area like this would be the real deal.

Thanks. I didn't see the other post either. I'm still getting used to the search functionality. Guess I'll try Google and "site: rv.net" for stuff like that.

Well since I didn't see the other post, I'll post here. He wallpaper is indeed waterproof. If your really concerned then you could wipe down the walls. Otherwise just shower and be done.

Have a shower with no surround. It's 5 years old, and absolutely no problems.

Those are the responses that lead to it being slow here.

I had a shower like that far a few years and no problems. I don't know if I would have wanted it for the long haul.

There's nothing new under the sun.
So don't be surprised when someone asks the same question as someone else once in a while.

We had one like that and the wallpaper was indeed waterproof. It held up fine to years of showers.
