Hey gang.I'm hauling a passport 2920BH with a 08' silveardo 1500 Crew cab.My normal Tranny temps when not pulling run about 160. When towing I can get up to 210-220 on the highway. What is too high? Every person I ask says there really is no set temp but it is kinda proportional compared to your non-towing temp. Is that true?No I don't have weights to give in the post as I have not done them. The TT is not close to it's max weight and the Silverado should be well under it's max Tow weight.

The closer you get to 300+ degrees the faster the ATF and seals in the transmission will break down. That being said, the modern ATV is very good stuff and will last a very long time. Some modern transmissions don't even have a way to refill them. They are sealed from the factory and will last the life of the transmission. 210 to 220F for modern ATF is nothing to worry about.

This wekend has been our longest journey (2 hours) and first time with the TT on the Highway (it was a bit scary at first) so I've been watching things like a hawk. When I started creeping up to 215 I made sure to keep it no faster than 65 which is harder on the 70mph Speedlimit highways in Indiana.

Factory gauge or aftermarket?Where is the sensor?Although I think you are fine. Up a grade you may even see 240 and a little more.65 is the rated speed limit of ST tires...

Only got slightly over on some large declines. Factory with digital readout. Unsure on location

Location would be for an aftermarket.Does the gauge have a temp limit or red zone so to speak?What does the manual say. I think you are fine at this point.

Remove the original trans cooler and install Tru-Cool 40K cooler. Pretty easy install. PM me if you have questions.

If you are worried about the tranny temps maybe you should add a tranny cooler. I personally have the cooler inside the radiator as well as the factory tranny cooler plus an additional aftermarket tranny cooler. Now I have no worries about the tranny temps.

I was just answering the OP. I have a 6.0L with the 6L90e. Pulls my 7500lb loaded TT like a dream thru Mt. Hood!

Nate ,,if you are able to, Call PORTLAND TRANSMISSION over on ? SE 122nd . GET David over there HE is quick and gives straight awnsers. I had him get me fixed with an add on cooler ,, :B

Even got me a loaner.. :)

I would be more worried about temp if it is the old 4 speed and Dex 3 in it vs the new 6 speed and Dex 6.

The DIC in his truck will tell him when his transmission is too hot. The new Dex 6 can handle temperatures well over 250 degrees.

X2 pulling our nearly 16000 lb fiver with our 08 D/A. The hotter is outside the warmer the tranny will run also.

Type your VIN into the online VIN engines and it will give all the details. Do you know which rear end you have? This will also tell you or the RPO code in glove box will also tell you.
