Truck Camper Insurance in California

A question for you folks in California. Since in California the TC is not a vehicle, is it's insurance tied to your home owner's policy or the truck?

Also, I saw some previous posts about towing being available for RVs with AAA in California. Is that if you have you auto policy with AAA or is it available via the AAA club?

Thanks for any information you can provide,

Auto insurance on the truck, Homeowners insurance off the truck.

Ask for the TC to be specified in your policies. You may need proof of insurance someday for temporary storage,
-or to educate a new insurance agent :h

It happened to me when I lost my house and unfortunately I had a State Farm earthquake policy that did not include the contents of the house which would have been covered had the house burned down. All the clients of the attorney I hired were people with State Farm earthquake insurance trying to collect.

That reminds me of a homeowner I did the roof for. The city made the homeowner install ceiling fire sprinklers. The owner told me as soon as his final inspection was over he would turn off the sprinklers. He said I have insurance for fire but not for water damage.

Sorry to hear of your loss, but in an actual 'earthquake scenario' my guess is that coverages (even where provided) are weakest of all. I've pursued this product before and decided that the understandably scantly coverage (to protect insurer) just wasn't worth the high cost of the premium. JMHO.

It worked the same way for me in Colorado with State Farm. The cost of adding our new camper to the trucks policy was very small.

I specifically asked about coverage at home with it off the truck. I was told the truck policy does cover it. I have State Farm on my house and all vehicles and have had the same agent for many years. I think I will have them reconfirm this though.

We have state farm and it is included in the homeowners policy. If the camper is off the truck it is not going to be covered by your auto insurance. Not unusual for agents to write a policy and take your money and later to find that you do not have the coverage you thought you had.

Same with State Farm here in Alabama. Just added the new AF 990 to my truck policy.

Turns out we happen to have State Farm also, so that is very good information. The only problem I have is that my agent retired recently and State Farm has messed up the transfer to the new agent. I was planning to meet with him soon to get things straighter out.

We have State Farm with a separate TC addendum that's attached to our regular truck insurance policy with the TC's value, comp (i.e. limbs, vandals, etc) and collision insurance as per the vehicle. When not attached to truck, the homeowners insurance applies.

p.s. as with a vehicle, IF going to Canada be sure to let the insurance company know.
