Truck camper meet-up at Overland Expo, Flagstaff, May

Hi everyone,

This has been hinted at a few times already, but here is the official invitation.

Overland Expo 2013 is being held at Mormon Lake, near Flagstaff, AZ from May 17 to 19.

I want to organise a truck-camper meet-up at the show. Last year we attended the European equivalent of this show in Germany and as well as being a fascinating show in its own right, it was great to see and spend time with the thousands of travellers with varied campers and overland vehicles that turned up and camped. So this year I think it would be great to have a truck camper meet-up in AZ.

Unfortunately we cannot bring our little truck camper along, since it is 5000 miles and an ocean away, but Sally and I will be coming in a rental B class camper we are picking up in Denver.

I've been talking to the show organisers and they have a basic camping field (no hook-up, but being TC owners I think we can cope with that :)) for $10 per night. They said they would love to have us come with our TCs and will set aside an area especially for us :B

I've been talking to a few of you already and so I know we've got a few takers, but I'd like to know who else would like to come. I'm not saying you need to commit 100% now, but I'd like to get an idea of the numbers involved so the show organisers know what size of area to set aside for us.

Hope to see you all in May to circle the wagons and get out the barbecues,

Steve & Sally.

Downloaded our on-line passes yesterday. Almost done with the repairs from the brutal beating the TC took on the Mojave Road. I hate to go out and work on it as every time I do I find more dents, desert pin striping, stuff ripped off, and rearranged outer parts.
regards, as always, jefe

Is there a need for a separate forum other than this one for truck campers, RV.net?

The Yahoo Group is intended to be a resource for all TC owners who are traveling to Overland Expo 2013, not just those who use RV.net and I have invited people from the other TC related forums I frequent. I don't intend for the group to be exclusive in any way and participation is optional.
Yahoo offers some features that are not available here... including a calendar, polls, and a place to upload documents. Also it will not be "moderated".
As I initially stated, it's not intended to be about the RV.net group camping area.
And finally, the Yahoo Group is temporal and will be closed after the OE event.

Hi Mark! I belong to a few Yahoo Groups, mostly vintage racing and a local community bulletin board. I feel they work fine, for those that don't otherwise have an option available for communicating.

Is there a need for a separate forum other than this one for truck campers, RV.net? I know I would be interested in what is being planned and opportunities available to those going. Plus some of the great ideas that are abundant here. I am curious why you wouldn't want to have your discussions here, among other TC enthusiasts?

I have created a Yahoo Group for people who will be traveling to the 2013 Overland Expo and would like to be able to communicate and possibly make plans (e.g caravan) beforehand.

The group is called: Truck Campers at Overland Expo 2013. You can search for it if the link doesn't work.

Joining this group does not include a camping spot in the "RV.net Truck Camping Area"... That effort is all being coordinated by Steve, aka. sabconsulting. (Thanx Steve!)

Feel free to join if you're interested.

Hi Everyone,

We're getting excited now. Not long to go until expo and the chance to meet fellow TCers and swap stories.

Those who got in early enough and requested space to camp in the small enclosure Expo have arranged for us should now have received an email from me (first of a series) with details. If not then check your private messages in rv.net, since I will have sent you a PM to get your email address.

If we have a number of people who can't make it and inform us in time then we can offer their space to others who have expressed interest since.

Of course, even if you don't have a space to camp in the RV.net TC enclosure, there will undoubtedly be plenty of space elsewhere in Expo's camping field. So please don't feel excluded, and do join us for a chat around the metaphorical camp fire in the evening (metaphorical since I'm not sure they will allow us real camp fires) and the obligatory comparing of campers.

Also, while talking about space, if you haven't got one allocated, but you turn up early and find our RV.net TC area still half empty, don't be offended if we can't accommodate you, since those remaining spaces will have been assigned for people turning up later.

I also appreciate that some people will want to come in quietly, travelling alone and incognito, and others will want to meet up and travel in groups as befits their personal preferences. If people are looking to hook-up with fellow travellers on the way, then feel free to post on this thread.

Steve.

Cool!!! I'm looking forward to meeting you and seeing what is probably the biggest, baddest truck camper combo on this forum. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks dude. Biggest, yeah probably. Baddest - I guess depending on your style. What we have works great for us but others would look at and shake their heads.

Looking forward to meeting you (and everyone else) as well.

Thanks. I will get my day passes when it gets closer so I know about the Dr's appts.

I guess this will be a recon for me as far as classes. Since you have to pre register I want to wait and see which ones I really want to do for next year.

Steve:

You've got one H*{{ of a line-up at Flagstaff this May, including Kristina Hall: SOCOM Military Training; Sarah Batten, Chief Instructor, Land Rover, Herefordshire, UK; Duncan Barbour, half a decade Camel Trophy Special Events organizer; etc....etc...etc...etc...

We tried to move the Earth to get there, however some things are just way bigger than us that need taking care of...there's always next Expo ๐Ÿ˜‰

Will try and make the Overland Expo.
Sending this from La Paz, Mexico. Having a great time but by May it could be too hot here, 95 today.

La Paz is just wonderfull. Calm the last few days went skinney dipping in a very flat Sea of Cortez. Fun!

Boondocking most nights for free but must stay in a RV park to empty waste and refill water tanks.

The RV park only charges 250 pesos a night about $20 US. They have free Wifi so I can post this.

Boondocking on a great beach is better than any RV park.

Laying on the beach is hard work but someone has to do it might as well be me!!!!
