When I was 10, dad finished building a Glen-L travel trailer to which we traveled west to Colorado from New Jersey. Two of my older siblings lived out here already. The "shake down cruise" to get out the the west destination mostly consisted of staying at KOA "motel type" overnighters which were just sleep-overs en route to our destination. Don't get me wrong, those stops were neat, but not camping as I interpreted it.
Brainard Lake was more like real camping! Campfire, rushing stream, lake and fishing! What more could a 10 year old ask for! I remember when the fishery was stocking the lake. I trapped and caught a fish between two rock in the lake. The game warden would not let me keep it.
Brainard Lake brings back some neat memories of the trip when we pulled that home-guild camper behind a 1975 International Harvester Travelall. Thanks for posting and jogging my brain cells. As close as I am to the Nederland area, I should make an effort to get back there and relive those first memories again of some 40 years ago. - insp1505ExplorerLooking at the amazing scenery in your pictures make me wish two things, 1. that diesel wasn't so expensive and 2. that I got more than a week off at a time from work to go see it all. Thanks for sharing.
