TT < 28’ - inside bike storage via large cargo door

Hello -

Do you have any suggestions for travel trailers with inside bike storage via a large outside access/cargo door, like shown in photos below? Which brands with that option have the best quality?

I was originally looking for a 24-28’ toy hauler with walk around queen bed, something like the Stealth 2313 shown immediately below. It is 28’ including hitch with 6,500 lb dry weight and 1,075 lb hitch weight. The primary reason for going to a toy hauler was to carry two adult mountain bikes and to have flexibility for more outdoor gear in the future.

However, in another thread some members were suggesting a travel trailer since my primary cargo will be two mountain bikes. With a travel trailer, I could get a lower trailer and hitch weight and more bang for the buck.

WoodGlue suggested looking at the Lance 2185, which has an oversized outside access door to a bunk area where you could store bikes. I am looking at that further.

I also come across this Heartland North Trail FX 23

Some Jaycos Jay Flights had this on bunk house floorplans with a ”Maxistor” outside access door. I think the 28BHS was one. Does anyone know if this the Maxistor or comparable are still available on Jayco's?

I also came across the KZ Spree 240BHS

Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Also, for anyone who has any of the trailers above, can you please tell me if two adult mountain bikes would fit without disassembly?

Thank you.

Where is Woodglue...I think the lance 2185 meets this requirement.

Oops, should have read closer, OP mentions Woodglues recommendation. I guess that's what happens when posting and drinking in the airport bar 🙂

I have a Wildwood 26BHSS that has a large door where the bunks are. The bottom bed folds flat to the wall leaving the area for cargo. It is only 26' has a Queen front two bunks and the sofa and dinette make into beds.

What will you be towing with? Will it be able to handle the tongue weight of a toy hauler?

If you decide to go with a travel trailer, you might want to take your bikes and see how they are going to fit. Make sure they pack the way you want them to. I am unable to fit any of our 4 26" mountain bikes in the storage without removing the front wheel from them. Not that big of a deal with the quick release, but it's something that has to be done when packing or unpacking.

I'd go for a toy hauler. Getting bikes in and out of a standard TT is not always an easy thing. Any excess space you have in the toy hauler could be used to store your chairs, rug, grill, misc stuff. Have seen them with a screen door type thing that closes in the middle with magnets and in rainy weather you'd have some space to spread out without actually being outside. For the absolute word on bikes and carrying them, you might PM bikendan on this forum or Hybrid Explorer. There's not much he can't help with re this.

Yes, don't want to put them in truck bed or other outside rack storage. Thank you.
