Here are the truck specs. Same front end as the rest of the hd's 4500lb. 6000lb rated semi floater rear gm has used for ever in there 2500 series trucks.

I have the super hitch, super truss setup. Torklift tie downs. And airbags. Hauled from washington to denver last summer and went over vail to moab on the way back. Truck did great except gas milage with the 4:10s sucked.

Yes.

I'd be concerned with the tongue weight and camper putting the truck over it's GVWR.

I think the 1500HD of that era has a GVWR of 8600lb

The gas Chevy won't have any problems with power. I keep reminding you guys, not that long ago all we had were gassers. And we carried all sorts of things.
Your advice loses credibility when you say things like only a diesel can pull any weight. Yeah they do it better, but its not like gas trucks can't get work done.
He's got a small light camper and some ATVs. get real.

It'll do it, but not happily.....or quickly. Wdh on a truss hitch just screams get a different truck or a different hobby.

I'd be concerned more about the drivetrain, especially if it's a gasser.

I know one thing, if I ever bought a used pickup, if it has what appeared to be a used receiver hitch, camper tie downs or a fifth wheel hitch in the bed, I'd run like hell.

Was looking for real world weights of enclosed trailers. Looking online and from previous experiance. They say empty the have 300lb tongue weight. So probly 500lbs with the wheelers? Dont know anything about weight distribution hitches. Do they even have them rated for that little?

My 20' enclosed trailer rated at 10k lbs weighs over 3500 lbs empty with about 500 lbs tongue weight. When I have mine loaded up to 8000 lbs, the tongue weight is over 1000 lbs.

The 1500hd is a 3/4 ton truck. Yes 6000lb rear axle. Truck empty has like 2500 on rear axle and camper loaded is like 2300. Current tongue weight is probly like 250, i can lift it by hand.

You've got 2300 pounds in the bed of a 1500 plus pulling a trailer now correct? And you want to go bigger correct? Have you weighed your rear axle with the current set up? If I remember correctly a 1500HD has an 8 lug rear axle but I can't imagine the RAWR is much more than about 6,000. I suspect your close now. I wouldn't be adding any weight with a heavier trailer.

OK... I will acknowledge the 1500 gorilla in the forum....

I think you are asking too much from a 1/2T series truck especially when adding a 20 foot enclosed trailer.

ATVs don't weigh a lot but 20' enclosed trailers do.
I'd use a weight distributing hitch for sure, towing one with a half ton carrying a camper, and towing on a hitch extension too.

500, 400, and the kids is like 200. Also might add a 50cc one for the youngest. Would be nice to have a place for the campnchairs and extra coolers and the like that is lockable.

I'm sure Bedlam or boatycall will respond, but how much do the ATVs weigh?
