TufTruck springs

Has anyone put these springs under their Ram 1500? I tow just under 6k but do carry a lot of stuff. My tuck has quite a high payload for a Ram at 1472. Rig handles great, but it does have that Ram sag.

Yes I know anything I do will not "change the ratings" but they undeniably will enhance the trucks real world capabilities.

Can anyone that has done this share your thoughts?

While we are at it I'll give an update also.

Empty the TTC 1211 I don't think is as harsh as some make it seem. After a month now I think they ride pretty good.

First actual trip with the camper last weekend. Loaded w/WD hitch the truck sat level and road smooth.

A good set of shocks will likely cure that busy feeling. Congrats!

Well I installed the TTC 1211 on my Ram. Have not hooked the trailer to it yet,so here are my initial impressions.

Truck is much stiffer, but not at all harsh. Suspension seems to be somewhat "busier" if that makes sense.

My Ram has from the factory, "enhanced ride height", which I believe is about a one inch lift. Bottom of my receiver was 17¼". Springs raised it 1½.

Rainin' on my parade again. LOL!

I can't argue against the bags and did seriously consider them. I would still consider them in the future. Back to the springs, TTC-1223v springs are shorter than OEM once installed and ultimately still result in too low of rear end on MY truck when towing, even after adding 1" spacers. TTC-1223 and TTC-1211 I think are pretty much the same, but the 1223 are taller. The ride is stiffer, but not harsh by any means. I've ridden in half tons with bags that were harsher. One major advantage I see is the simplicity of the springs. No air pressure to check, virtually no chance of component failure.

Happy Camping!

No load, Harsher 3/4 ton like ride with 1211 or firmed up factory ride with 1223V with some initial compression leaving a level-ish or slight rake truck IE less than factory rake but no sag. That is figuring setting up truck & TT adjusting loading and WDH according to CAT scale results. IE to replace unloaded steer weight (3,200-3,300) and toward 12.0 percent tongue weight or 720 pounds.
(For WDH you calculate TW by subtracting unloaded truck scale weight from loaded truck scale weight)

I have to say though consider the HD axle to frame bags such as the Timbergroves. $359 and you are done. No need to buy adjustable shocks for the front to offset additional rake from the higher setting aftermarket springs. Improved factory ride through better dampening and less NVH. Quick & easy adjustable airspring pressure for an appropriate spring rate no matter the load.

I transport TTs from the Mfgrs to their dealerships commercially 560k miles on my 2014 Ram 1500 ED. From 700 on the tongue to an empty bed to different times as much as 1,000 on the tongue & a 8/900 pound Harley in the bed all in the same cross country round trip. Would have 15 psi then drop to 5 then Inflate up to 20 in the bags plus WDH. Always rides smooth and handles with control and dampened and a slight rake. Twice I forklift loaded pallets of tile to the cab edge of the bed 2,800 & 2,900 pounds. Load rated tires and 25 psi no issues. Was she overloaded yep but no sag and fine for a local move.

Point is I’m spoiled. I see no reason to buy perhaps stiff harsh riding big rake aftermarket springs. If you click the link you will see this is not the cheapie thin plastic like in coil bags that have to be aired up prior to loading and have the cheapest plastic lines and fitting that eventually leak. This is brass fittings heavy convoluted rubber bags like semi trucks. Food for thought.

I had the 1223V. They worked fine and rode great, but still sagged more than I wanted. I ended up going with a local spring that should be the equivalent to the regular 1223. It's definitely stiffer, but not bad. However, it added way more lift than I would have preferred. If I was purchasing springs again, I'd go with the 1211. I think you'll be pleased with your choice.

Thanks,
I emailed them this morning, and they recommended the TTC 1211. I asked about the 1223's and they said that the don't recommend it for towing because the top of the variable weight coil will compress a couple of inches before the lower stronger section comes into play..

I ordered the recommended. Spendy buggers, I gotta like them now!

Rig handles fine the way it is,but we are two lane travelers, and a bit more stiffness in the twisties and whoop dee do's is always welcome.

This is the one they generally recommend the 1223 variable rate for best empty ride yet 50 percent more carrying capacity at the limit. Since it raises the back of the truck some many also add either the Bilstein 5100 or the Eibach pro truck both quality & adjustable to get both a bit of lift and your proper rake back.

I transport TTs commercially with my Ram 1500 ED & a 6,500 pound TT is daily fare for my truck. I didn’t want the lift I wanted better control dampening & ride so I went with a quality axle to frame air bag set like this; BTW you don’t need the fancy on board compressor any cheap plug in or cigarette lighter powered compressor that you store under your seat will quickly fill these bags even under load. For that matter you hit any free truck air or gas station air compressor.

Edit sorry can’t seem to make the links work. With only a 6k TT & a WDH you shouldn’t be anywhere near your 3,900 pound axle limits. Adjust your loading & WDH towards 12.0 percent tongue weight (I find it ideal) and you would only have about 720 pounds of tongue weight. This leaves room for passengers & any stuff that you have to put in the bed. BTW 560k miles transporting TTs mostly plant to dealerships. Great truck for moderate weight, great transmission, efficient engine.

Just installed there heaviest spring XDH? a week ago. Have a full tank of gas through them. And was pleasantly surprised that they ride smooth empty. When the road gets really ruff they ride like trucks used too, no big deal.

Took the camper for a short drive 30 miles or so with out the WD hitch. As expected it did not squat as bad. Bonus the springs had a smooth ride loaded.

Very happy with them so far.

A buddy of mine did. He was happy with them, but of course the ride was a bit stiffer (duh). 🙂
