Under Cover Swing Case Toolbox

Does anyone have experience with the Under Cover Swing Case toolbox(s) mounted in their tow vehicle? I am interested to know if they are useful or worth the money. Autoanything has a Memorial Day sale with 20% off making the Swing Case a decent buy at $159.
  • Well we were in FL and he had TX plates so I don't think he has much of a rust problem. I agree it wouldn't work for us up north.
  • I had a set of these tool boxes (NOT the swing away style) in my 1977 Ford truck I once owned. A set, meaning two, one on each side.

Mounted in the exact same location, aft of the wheel wells, as pictured in the first photo of RoyB's post.

I found them to be extremely handy for carrying tools and other stuff I could fit in there.

Mind you, with the factory placement of the 7 way trailer connecter in my Ram today, they would not work as they'd be in the way for plugging in now.

Last camping trip there was a guy a few sites over with a 350 dually towing a big 5er. What he did that I thought was neat was installed a few magnetic strips on the side wall right where that swing box would go. Kind of like how you store kitchen knives on a pair of magnet strips, he had a few screwdrivers, crescent wrench, etc on the strips. I guess they must stay there going down the road, and they're probably the couple hand tools he needs frequently. Sorry didn't snap a pic, was on my way to the showerhouse and didn't have my phone...
Not a bad way to carry your tools, but having to take them down every day would be a pain. They'd rust like crazy if you left them there all the time.

The Swing Case looks kind of cool, but the price tends to put me off. A full size tool box can be had for the money they're asking.

  • I did take into account the hooks being covered and ordered a set of Bull Rings that will mount above the tool box. I don't have a fifth wheel/gooseneck plug in the bed to be concerned about.

I like the area where the toolbox ends up sitting at. Not sure if I would pay extra for the swing hinge thing. They will hide you lash down hooks. Some of us might have have a 7-way trailer connector mounted here for the fifth wheels...

My 2KW Generator lives secured in this tailgate area on one side of my truck. I pull it out onto the dropped tailgate when I need to use it. Its Out-of-sight Out-of-mind here. Goes where I go...
