Upgrading Gears 3.73 to 4.10
I guess it would be called an "upgrade" but I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado Liz, z71, 2wd, 6.0l gas. 77,000 miles, with 3.73 gears. I current pull (with no problems) my signature rig 5th wheel that weights pretty close to 9500lbs -9800 lbs travel weight. We do not carry water.
My parents & I are considering buying a 5th wheel that would sleep alll us thus allowing him to just travel & not pull his current TT. This new 5th wheel will weigh about 500lbs more than my current FW & I would do the towing.
Question is since I am near capacity now would it be beneficial to change gears from 3.73 to 4.10? I realize fuel will decrease mpg. Will or could it harm the transmission over time? Anything I am not considering?
Thanks!
