water heater trouble

I'm having trouble with my water heater, the other night i turned the water heater on, after awhile i hear a big bang and water is everywhere. I turned the pump off and begin searching for the issue. I find the bypass valve that is in front of the heater was blown out. Couple days later i replace the valve, also the hi-temp thermostat on the heater, fill the system to test to see if everything works. I get water when i turn on the hot water faucet but its cold, water heater has hot water in it? Every time i turn the hot water faucet on i hear a knock, never had that before? Bypass valve is in the up position, just like it was before. Any help would be appreciated. This is a 2004 artic fox 990.

  • Got the check valve (g-784)and its fixed, thanks for your help. The guys at Dinosaur Electronics, Chris and Dave at Northdwoods Mfg. are super people, they don't ask why you called they are there to help. Chris especially was unbelievable, he was on the phone with me for 30 min. tracking down my original issue, no power to the circuit board, and then helping me with why i wasn't getting hot water at the faucet. Talk about patience, the best.

  • I called Northwoods Mfg. and they said its the check valve on the hot water side of the water heater outlet so I'm off to get the part and see if that fixes it. I'll be back. Part won't be in until late Thursday.

  • If i turn the valve to the left the water stops the water at the hot water faucet. There are only 2 positions, straight up or to the left.
  • You can't really put the valve in wrong, the only reason for replacing the valve was because it blew the front of the valve off. I just fired up the heater again to see if its getting hot water. I'll get pictures in a bit. Thanks.

  • If all you have done is change a valve and now it doesn't work, I would think that you have put the valve in wrong. A picture of your set-up would be nice to see what you have. JMO
  • By pass valve on front? Do you mean temp pressure relief? If your not getting hot water out you have a valve in wrong or in a wrong position.
